Dear @BoozeAndFagz The first time I cried at a song was the finale to Love Story in 1970. I was 10. But the last time I cried was seeing Patti Smith about 10 years ago. I cried because I’d never seen her live before, and Horses was the one album that sustained my adolescence.

.@occgn. 1/2 I ceased to be a revolutionary Marxist in 1975, when I resigned from the International Socialists. IN the years (1968-75) when I was a Marxist, I was a Trotskyist, hostile to the Soviet regime (which, it is worth recalling, murdered and imprisoned Trotskyists on its territory, and murdered Trotsky himself in exile. The idea that I was ever sympathetic to the Moscow Communist regime is comically wrong.

A couple of evenings ago i was just thinking there was a change in the air, a bit more light, and right on cue I heard the first blackbird song I’ve heard since the summer. He’s a bit unsure, and he switches to a call, but it’s a start.😊🐦⬛

Saddened to hear that Molly Parkin has passed. For years we were 'permanently engaged' during the Madame Arcati blog years, and we attended so many events together. She was an astonishing fashionista, designing robes that struck me as ecclesiastical crowned with turbans and other outlandish headgear. Briefly she was the fashion editor of The Sunday Times. I'll write more about her soon. @thetimes
