We’re kicking off the first day of spring with a look back at this depression-era citrus label from the Bell Fruit Company, Inc. of Brooksville, Florida. Citrus labels were used in Florida from the late 1800s until the early 1960s, but their “golden era” dates from 1900 to 1939. #DYK that Dorothy Dodd was our second State Librarian and the first State Archivist? She preserved more than 15,000 cataloged items from around the state for the Florida collection of the State Library, equaling a total of 260 linear feet! @FLMemory

It’s #TourismThursday! We’re visiting the Big Cypress National Preserve in Collier County. Spanning over 720,000 acres west of Miami and full of cultural and ecological history, Big Cypress was designated in 1974 as the first U.S. National Preserve. @FLMemory

#DYK that the Town of Marineland resides in both Flagler and St. Johns counties? Established in 1940, the town became synonymous with the Marineland marine park (formerly Marine Studios), but the town itself is also a hub of research and conservation. @FLMemory @America250FL

#OTD in 1845, Levy County was created by the Florida Legislature. Florida’s 26th county is named after politician, statesman, and railroad entrepreneur, Levy Yulee. @FLMemory @America250FL

#DYK that in1969, @NASAKennedy successfully launched Apollo 9? Commanded by Russell Schweickart, the module made 152 orbits around the Earth, and carried the largest payload ever placed in orbit. Schweickart also performed a 37-minute spacewalk. @FLMemory @America250FL

#OTD in 1789, the U.S.Constitution went into effect. Florida’s State Constitution is modeled after that document and even begins with the words, “We the People…”. It’s #TourismTuesday and we’re going back in time to visit Circus World. Located in Davenport in Polk County, an originally the property of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Combined Shows Inc., the park opened in 1974 and closed in 1986. @FLMemory
