Failed Robotaxi ride in 91° heat. I LOVE Tesla @Robotaxi and tonight is date night and I was SO EXCITED to take my Wife on an Unsupervised Robotaxi ride for drinks and dinner in Austin. I hailed the ride after “High Service Demand” cleared after ~15mins of trying. A red Model Y shows up with zero Robotaxi markings on it and a guy driving in the front seat. I was immediately let down but we had already waited so long and we needed to reach out destination so we got in. His hands were on the wheel the whole time and it felt like it was last year when the program was just starting. The Supervisor was nice but the ride went sideways. We tried to go to Zanzibar in Austin but the car drove right by the entrance and took us ~a 1/4 mile way out of the way to a residential apartment building. We asked the supervisor what was going on and he called Support and told us to press the support button. Support came on the line and said there was nothing they could do. We had to walk in the 91° heat. We were dressed in nice clothes and shoes not made for walking. My Wife was NOT impressed. I was embarrassed as I had talked up the service so much. On our walk to our destination, we witnessed a Waymo dropping off a rider in the place that we should have been dropped off. Additionally, when we arrived at our destination, hot and sweaty, we saw that there was plenty of room to drop us off. Very frustrating. The best part is, we paid for this experience.

I had the worst Robotaxi ride ever. Video soon.

@JoshWest247 @robotaxi Heads up unsupervised is still limited to 9am-3pm based on latest @RtaxiTracker data. If you get a ride outside those hours, seems to only be the test vehicles with safety driver. And yeah agree pudo experience is rough

Elon knows what is happening: FSD is effectively solved. Safety is achieved. From here, it's about fine-tuning and avoiding the annoying non-critica mistakes. This is a lot of tweaking but nothing critical. He doesn't know how scaling will go - no one does - so this is about informed speculation. That's my job, not his. He just relaxes and sees it all unfolding.

@JOBhakdi Do you think Elon was low key sandbagging the rollout speed on the call?

💔Much division in the Tesla community after the earnings call. Thinking about making some interviews and debates to better understand each side and find common ground. Communication is the most important think. Who do you think I should interview or who should make a debate?

@TSLApod @Ivan_S3XY @RomainHedouin There is a trade-off between cycle life and energy density. There is no need for anything close to 7000 cycles in cars, so automotive cells aren't optimised for that.

These are the sort of specifications we expected to come out of Tesla's 4680 batteries a few years ago

@TeslaBoomerPapa There's a disconnect between Robotaxi production and Elon's talk about the Robotaxi rollout. A slow Robotaxi production ramp seems like the most likely explanation.

@TSLApod @Ivan_S3XY @RomainHedouin I'm too lazy to check all the claims in there; but I know for a fact that at least the claim about cycle life is nonsense in context: while stationary storage cells often get 7,000 or 10,000 cycles, automotive LFP is way lower. 1,500 - 3,000 is the range I've seen so far.

@Everman Are you complaining about getting half of your investment into SpaceX, a company that is literally going to the moon and Mars!?

Some of us have been investing in the $TSLA vision of robotaxi since 2016 (or before). “The greatest asset value increase overnight with a software download.” - Elon We’ve patiently supported and sown as Tesla solved an incredibly hard problem, with the promise of an incredibly valuable business. I believe the value of TSLA is at least $1,500/sh based on what we’ve built. All that’s required is to scale it. Now the specter of getting bought out by SpaceX puts a clock on that value recognition. If Tesla can’t realize their 10 year vision and reap the value creation before getting bought out, shareholders will lose half or more of that value recognition through dilution. For Elon, he must get SpaceX IPO done quickly before Tesla gets way too expensive. There’s no way SpaceX could buy a $5T Tesla. For SpaceX to be the buying company (and the dual class share structure to be the final structure), they must act before Tesla runs away. Unfortunately this perverts the incentives. The best thing for SpaceX (Elon) is for Tesla (Elon) to slow-roll robotaxi until SpaceX can buy them. It may be inevitable now based on the disclosures during the call yesterday. I’m just trying to illuminate the probable path for people who can’t see it yet. If Elon asks you to sell your shares to SpaceX for less than $1,500/share, you’ll know what happened. Influencers will try to tell you this is for the best. What it actually means is that you will get 50% or less of the value recognition due to dilution, and SpaceX shareholders get the rest. My position is simple. Tesla shareholders deserve to see the realization of the value creation of the business we’ve invested in for 10 years. $5T should do it. Tesla is undervalued. Then we can talk about merging with SpaceX. I say this as a Tesla and SpaceX shareholder. I’m going to get robotaxi profits either way. I’m saying all this looking out for retail investors who didn’t get the change to buy SpaceX in 2021. SpaceX has 10x for me since then. TSLA has done nothing. It’s time to scale robotaxi and for Tesla shareholders to reap.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

@russotalks All cars made since Oct 2016 either have the hardware needed for FSD or are trivially upgradeable

@TSLApod @Ivan_S3XY @RomainHedouin Can we already stop the myth that it can charge to 100% without damage? It's just as damaging as with other chemistries. But due to the voltage profile, it's *necessary*; and the typically higher total cycle life (perhaps about double on average) compensates for this.

@Ivan_S3XY @RomainHedouin What’s the point? Could not Tesla make an LFP if you could make it so good? LFP is superior on many fronts except density. Many times more durable, and can charge it 100% every time without damage

this is LFP, Tesla 4680 is NMC. There are zero battety NMC producers with fast charging NMC. Over time, we will see 3C charging capabilities from Tesla, Panasonic, LG and other 4680, 46100 NMC batteries. More silicon content will unlock it + they already removed mayor bottleneck by removing certain binders on anode and cathode side because ypu have dry process.
