@RepJoshHarder @RepMaloyUtah Thank you for the invitation! It was an honor to discuss Geothermal’s role in American Competitiveness and the policy steps we can take to accelerate it with you and the Build America Caucus.

Geothermal is affordable, renewable, and one of our best tools for securing American energy dominance. But years of red tape is standing in the way. @RepMaloyUtah and I held a panel with @TimMLatimer and the bipartisan Build America Caucus on speeding up these energy projects.

Man if the energy transition advocates were thinking chess instead of checkers they should be using this data center moment to be figuring out how to get them to cost share that long distance intra regional high voltage backbone that they always wanted the ratepayer to fully fund in the past in a win-win. 765kv from Ohio to DC might help deliver CCGT gas now but would set up for that holy grail interregional transmission probably later on.

There are so many technology trends that had to converge—PDC drill bits, reservoir simulation, fiber optic sensing, large-scale ORC turbines, etc.—and mature at the same time, it would have been impossible to make a Fervo-style EGS technology work pre-2015.

A mission of Fervo from the very beginning has been showing a path where O&G skills can accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. So it’s exciting to see that Mission play out as Big Oil starts to follow in Fervo’s geothermal progress foot steps. canarymedia.com/articles/geoth…

@nukeadvocate I mean, really it does. Cheaper drilling unlocks the ability to have more reservoir contact for the same cost, meaning that thermal depletion goes down. Thermal depletion is a very manageable part of modern EGS and a tiny portion of the cost of a project.

It takes a pretty unique personality to make it as a hardtech founder. Most everyone I know who has found success has been rejected by many hundreds of VCs while fundraising over the years and still finds grit to move forward.

@majormartin1942 The pace seems slow, relative to what? Are there other complex, multi-billion dollar, first of a kind, mega projects that are moving faster? Just trying to make sure we are using the right benchmarks here.

@TimMLatimer Agreed ! My tweets won't make them come online faster - only you and your team can do that. The pace seems slow. I wonder what the bottleneck is... I hope you already have a bunch of other projects in both Utah and other states lined up, and that you have supply chain ready.

There was record attendance at this years Stanford Geothermal Workshop. Crowds were so large they had to add spillover rooms for the first time. We are at the part of the cycle when a huge influx of human capital accelerates things. pangea.stanford.edu/ERE/db/GeoConf…

It’s amazing how many reply guys there are on this website that just regurgitate some form of: “Interesting [leading indicator] you’ve shared there, but why isn’t it showing up in this [lagging indicator]??” That’s not how understanding the future works yall.

@majormartin1942 We have well documented both our ongoing generation, which has been online since 2023, and our multi-GW growth plans, with the next phase to come online this year. These are complex multi-year construction projects and unfortunately your tweet replies won’t make them any faster!

In any hardtech startup there is a singular discipline that ties the tech to the economics and it’s vital a founding team has that as a core competency. In geothermal, it’s Reservoir Engineering, and there are countless startups working on bad ideas because they lack that skill.

If this was true for modern oil and gas, they would be flooding instead of fracking. The shale revolution transformed abundant lower quality reservoirs into viable economic options via the drill frac repeat factory. Question is, is EGS factory mode compatible?
