Labour is on course to lose *every one* of the 50 seats it holds in Sunderland, home to Bridget Phillipson, the education secretary. There are fears that the Greens could make significant gains in Camden, where Starmer’s seat is located, as well as Hackney, Lewisham and Lambeth * Labour officials are so concerned by the threat now posed by the Greens in the central London councils they have long won by landslides that they have diverted almost all the party’s campaigning resources to contests in the heart of the capital * One minister said that a bad night in London would be “existential” for ­Labour, given how many of its members were based there. Mark Ashton, Chairman of Ipswich Town FC, has just delivered a masterclass in institutional cowardice. Unreservedly apologising for the “hurt, pain and distress” caused by hosting an elected Member of Parliament, Nigel Farage? Not for some scandal, but for the unpardonable sin of allowing democracy to set foot in a football stadium. This is not compassion. It is the snivelling capitulation of a man who mistakes the shrieking of a Twitter minority for moral authority. One watches such a spectacle with horror: another British institution folding before the mob, reviewing its “policy on engaging with politicians” as though free association were now a hate crime. Pathetic, spineless, and beneath contempt. Britain deserves leaders with spines, not this grovelling.

Starmer and Reeves are in hock to Miliband - who’s set on destroying our country. And costing us all dear from groceries to clothes, fuel bills to petrol, every necessity and every luxury will cost more thanks to the government’s unaffordable energy taxes.

@zatzi It's so hard not to become angry over this. It was inevitable to those awake that voting in a Labour Govt would end up meaning higher taxes for working people and business. The economy stalling, GDP slowing down, business failures up, unemployment up, social spending up..

I fear more to come. 👇 And increased sales of supermarket wine are a strong sign people are feeling worse off: people swap eating and drinking out for staying at home - classic inferior good indicator of falling incomes and falling economy.
