So let us get this straight. A Labour candidate writes to voters, saying “as a father of daughters unlike the SNP and Green candidates,” he supports women’s rights to single-sex spaces and that men shouldn’t be in women’s prisons - and that’s branded “divisive nonsense” and a “misogynistic attack.” But placing violent men in women’s prisons isn’t? Right. Words in a letter are the problem - not the policy being questioned. For reference, the letter said: “As a father of daughters unlike the SNP and Green candidates, I am also unequivocal in supporting women’s rights to single sex spaces. A few weeks ago, human beings travelled further from Earth than ever before. And here we are in 2026, where 9 in 10 women don’t feel safe walking home at night. We’d argue that, for many, that doesn’t just apply at night anymore. Whatever has been prioritised politically, the outcome hasn’t improved for women. Instead, 88% report feeling unsafe, and most are changing their routes. What “progressive” times we live in. We’re told women can do it all - build careers, lead, succeed - but good luck getting home safely afterwards! It’s shocking.
