“Victims won't stay 6, 7 years in the justice process. The system will no longer function, it will collapse, it's already on the brink.” A broken system cannot deliver justice ⚖️ We need urgent action on courts to pull the system back from the edge. 🔗theguardian.com/law/2026/jan/1…

Really welcome this pre-trial support being extended to domestic abuse victims - an important step. This kind of support is critical for all victims waiting to give evidence in court. Every victim deserves to feel prepared, supported and heard throughout the process.
Ellie Reeves@elliereeves

Today, I have announced £5 million of funding for the @CPSUK to support victims of domestic abuse in the Crown Court. Victims will be offered a pre trial meeting with the prosecution. This will provide them with better support and ensure their voice is heard.

Good to meet with @Kirsty_Brimelow today to discuss challenges facing our justice system. While we bring different perspectives, it’s important to continue these open conversations. I'm keen to work with @thebarcouncil to ensure victims’ experiences are at the heart of our work

In Cardiff today with @welshwomensaid to meet with frontline services - a lifeline for victims. Incredibly grateful for survivor insights on the shortcomings of the Victims' Code - a stark reminder of how much needs to change to make justice accessible.

Recent amendments to the Victims & Courts Bill highlight the urgent need for stronger safeguards for children from abusive parents in family courts. Govt plans to test Jade’s Law first, and I’m pleased it will finally commence by Dec 2026. Thanks to @SalBrinton for pushing this.

I met the Prime Minister with brave survivors. Too many face intrusive questions, disproportionate disclosure demands and long delays. Independent legal advice and Operation Soteria are positive steps - but urgent action on Crown Court delays is vital. victimscommissioner.org.uk/news/listen-to…

We're putting victims at the front and centre of the justice system. These measures form part of the Government’s wider plan to halve violence against women and girls within a decade, ensuring victims receive the justice and protection they deserve. bit.ly/4rlozXI

"It's really extreme keeping victims in this process and in limbo for so many years." Victims' Commissioner Claire Waxman explains why she supports the government's plans to fix the court backlog by limiting jury trials for certain crimes.

This inspection by @hmcpsi shows the concerning impact of court delays on older victims. For those in declining health, justice delayed can mean justice denied. We must reform our courts to ensure timely justice for all. Grateful to @WeAreHourglass for highlighting these risks.
HMCPSI@hmcpsi

We have published an inspection of @CPSUK's approach to prosecuting crimes against older people. Prosecutors are good at identifying vulnerability and supporting victims but court delays pose risks hmcpsi.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/report/an-insp…

Grateful to @JadeBlue for highlighting the importance of the Victims Right to Review (VRR). Victims need to know they can ask for decisions to be reviewed. VRR is a crucial safeguard - it must be strengthened, protected and delivered nationally. More: #VRR" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">victimscommissioner.org.uk/victims-and-co…

Great to be featured in this week’s Closer, discussing my case, the Victims’ Right to Review pilot, the campaign behind it, and the work of Make Yourself Heard (@MYH_ldn). Victims deserve to know they have the right to ask for decisions to be reviewed - yet too many still don’t know this right exists. We must keep the pressure on to ensure the pilot is made permanent.
