@LukeEdwardsTele I think I would like him better if he weren't trying to drive disabled British people into poverty, despair, and worse. As a disabled person, I see him as vile. An opportunistic man. A wolf in human rights clothing.

Keir Starmer is quietly turning into quite an impressive PM for an international global crisis. Calm, astute and strong when he needs to be. Not that he’ll get any praise for it in the media or on here of course, but he has shown real leadership in an extremely challenging situation.

Dear @Keir_Starmer This is the point at which, if we are sane, we rejoin the EU. No, I am not happy that I correctly predicted being out of Europe would leave us horrifically vulnerable to a warmongering USA... Please. For the love of this country, take us back to safety.

Well done Netherlands 🇳🇱. I wish other countries would follow suit! A beautiful shift towards more mindful celebrations! The Netherlands has taken a huge step in embracing peace and compassion by eliminating fireworks, helping protect animals and nature. It’s heartwarming to see communities prioritising the well-being of all creatures. 🌿🐾

@BostonByBirth I am so sorry for your loss. I am very glad to know him. What a beautiful boy! One thing I noticed is that he has brought together thousands of people in a shared moment of empathy, reflection, peace, compassion, and joy. He DID change the world. Sending love to all.

When I wrote this post, I was largely talking into the ether. My 6-year-old daughter suddenly burst into the house yesterday afternoon with the unmistakable scream that made my wife cry, reminding me of that day. I didn’t expect these reactions; they’ve been so incredibly nice.

My son died. I know he didn't contribute anything to mankind — he was only two months old — but I like to believe he was destined to do something good for humanity. It's been a while since his death, and I hate to dwell on it so publicly, but I wanted you to know him.

@chris_harrod Terrible. Six years later, daughter and I still can’t breathe unless sitting. We miss it. She’s twenty-seven.

Okay. I admit it. It was me wot done it: I was the producer who - almost 20 years ago - accidentally picked up Guy Goma - @RealWrongGuy - from the wrong reception area at BBC TV Centre and put him on air. Now I’ve written a book about it, along with Goma. “The Wrong Guy: the inside story of TV’s greatest cock-up” is a never-before-told, insider’s account of how a death-defying escape from civil war-wracked Congo put Guy on the path to a job interview at the @BBC - and 15 minutes of improbable fame that has endured for two decades.
Delighted to say @NickPisa at the @DailyMail has written about the book (and Guy and me) describing it as a “hilarious account…telling in fine detail the buildup and the aftermath of what became television history.” The book is already available for pre-order. Do please take the plunge and buy it. amzn.eu/d/0aodh1Ng

Chilean science has long punched above its weight (mass), partly because people from all backgrounds could get government fellowships to undertake MSc/PhD/Postdoc abroad. This will now be stopped by the new Government.

@BiancoDavinci Not so fun fact! Hand engraving is a dying art as lasers take over and remove the personality of the craft. Bring back demand to bring back the supply! I cherish my hand engraved rings over the others…

This ring belongs to a tradition of posy rings that medieval and early modern goldsmiths produced in enormous numbers. The inscriptions were typically chosen from a standardized catalog of phrases that jewelers kept ready for customers, lovers didn't compose their own declarations so much as select from a menu. Museum collections across Britain and France hold hundreds of surviving examples, and the phrases recur so consistently across different workshops and regions that historians have been able to reconstruct the catalogs themselves. The intimacy that makes these objects feel intensely personal was often a collaborative commercial product between a goldsmith's stock phrases and a buyer's budget. What feels like one person's singular declaration to another was frequently a line that had already been sold on a dozen other rings that year.

When you listen to Iranian diplomats, they're articulate, well-groomed, composed and erudite. Then you listen to some American equivalents and it's like you've entered a conversation in McDonalds.

GPT-5.4 is great at coding, knowledge work, computer use, etc, and it's nice to see how much people are enjoying it. But it's also my favorite model to talk to! We have missed the mark on model personality for awhile, so it feels extra good to be moving in the right direction.
