I love this so much. I wonder how enjoyable assistive technology and accommodations could be if people designed for sensory joy instead of avoiding aversions.

@AspieHuman Hi! I'm definitely not going to ignore this (fellow neurodivergent person here👋🏿). You're absolutely right. There is so much labor placed on us to do disability justice in academia too. It can be incredibly draining when we're trying to navigate preexisting ableist institutions.

@_canwill Feel free to ignore this as it's not directly related, but 1. I'm an AFAB nonbinary person at the end of my PhD, and at this point I feel like the only skill I have is in disability. 2. My university is finally hiring one ADA coordinator and thinks it'll solve everything.

Additionally, paying for expertise does NOT mean: 1. converting Black people (often women) with a PhD in a STEM field into your DEI dean/director. 2. hiring 1 person to do ALL the DEI work for the entire college/department. There literally needs to be a team.

This internship opened a lot of doors for me. I had amazing mentors: @Martez_Mott & @merrierm. Also, only 1 of my reference letters came from someone I did research with. If you feel under qualified, apply anyway. BIPOC applicants, you can do it!

@thoughtsofaphd Me, except it's the current state of my email inbox. I just sent 4 emails and decided it was enough for one day. 😅

@TrustGoodwill @LucretiaW_ this may be of interest to you. It would be interesting to see if faculty & students could co-design a mutually benefical solution. Our roles within universities are co-dependent in many aspects.

A lot of my research has focused on student mental health, but I am growing increasingly concerned about faculty mental health & wellbeing. The pressure to mange everything and be everything seems like too much. Extra measures of grace + compassion to all.

@mmitchell_ai Not sure if this tweet fits here, but many people will love you as long as you stay silent. Once you've had enough of taking toxic behavior, you become the villain. Unfortunately genuine allyship isn't guaranteed from anyone, even "nice" people. twitter.com/thoughtsofaphd…

@_canwill I've also had the experience (dunno if others have) where the "nice" leaders who are thought to be the supportive ones in the right company will behind the scenes pretty savagely try to sink your career ("too uncollaborative") or spread toxic rumors about you ("hysterical")

@hcmacomber This was me when @NikkiLobczowski introduced me to the grant writing process. I had no idea it was so involved.😂 Shout out to all the overwhelmed postdocs making time to explain stuff to curious undergrads. 💖
