In 2021, we saw unprecedented growth in the crypto industry across MENA. At @rainfinancial, we did our part in providing high quality access to crypto for 200k approved customers. We have so many achievements from last year to be proud of.

Kleiner Perkins
Kleiner Perkins@kleinerperkins·
For more than 50 years, Kleiner Perkins has partnered with founders at moments of inflection. AI is reshaping every industry from the ground up, faster than anything we've seen before. This is the moment to build. Today, we're proud to announce KP22, our twenty-second venture fund: $1 billion to back early-stage companies, alongside $2.5 billion in growth funds to back high-inflection, category-defining businesses. A moment like this is where the most enduring companies take root. Deep founder relationships and hands-on support matter more than ever, and we believe in lean investment and portfolio operating teams that work on founder time to deliver exactly that. We're so grateful to the founders and LPs who have trusted us over the years. We couldn't be more excited to partner with the next generation of history-making companies. @hexablob I find Go to be a lot more straightforward and more practical. I haven't used Rust though extensively, so I can't compare them.

Today @kleinerperkins is announcing KP21 an $825M fund to back early stage companies and KP Select III, a $1.2 billion fund to back high inflection investments. There hasn't been a better time to start a company and the AI wave may be the biggest yet - bigger than the Internet, Mobile and Cloud combined. Let's all Rise with the AI!

We wanted to take some time today to clarify a security incident that we haven't been able to fully comment on yet, due to an ongoing investigation. At the time of the incident, we acted swiftly, we protected our customers, and we upheld our commitment to keep customer funds 1:1 with reserves. We have since taken extreme measures to further secure our platform against bad actors. At Rain, we believe protecting customer funds is our single biggest responsibility. We will continue to uphold that responsibility. x.com/rain/status/17…

Bruce, you can’t possibly be serious. You can’t say that “MENA is the most important region today for #Bitcoin adoption” and not know about @rain. Let me refresh your memory: * Worked for 2.5 years to help the CBB release the first license of its kind in the region: bitcoinmagazine.com/business/crypt… * Raised $110 MM from Coinbase, Paradigm, and Kleiner Perkins: thenationalnews.com/business/start… * Recently, we entered our full domestic launch phase with this license: adgm.com/media/announce… after 5 years of collaboration with the ADGM. We are the first retail brokerage to allow direct bank deposits to all of UAE. We are also a much beloved exchange in Saudi, and we hope to have the opportunity to acquire a license there one day as well. This is just a few of our accomplishments, but we have been the largest regional exchange in the Gulf for some time. We have also asked to be a part of Satoshi Roundtable on more than one occasion.

Satoshi Roundtable IX! The Middle East is the most important area in the world today for #Bitcoin adoption. We picked Dubai for the 9th Satoshi Roundtable to unite the right people. Let's change the world. If you would like an invitation please ask us or a past attendee!

The world is a mess right now. I have to believe that proper accounting would at least help things. Giving anyone the right to create money inevitably leads down one path…

I have been cynical about supporting the idea of a metaverse, despite having read the original novel(Snowcrash) long ago and being active on the internet. That being said, hearing Zuck say that the human experience is a "physical experience" is reassuring that this tech is being designed thoughtfully x.com/lexfridman/sta…

Since I am trying to usher in a new era of global, decentralized accounting protocols, maybe I should brand myself as a New Age Accounting Advocate

@_jayd3e Ethereum would be good for a start. As I am getting yield on Coinbase it prevents me from depositing more in Rain. If you could provide staking yield I would definitely diversify my deposit base.

@Cannedwharf Great question, it is definitely something we are looking at for the very near term future. I'm assuming you are talking mostly about staking? Which coin(s) would you like to stake?

@bpmilne To answer your question a little more directly. > has anyone built this? Has anyone built a crypto wallet for businesses? Absolutely. Has anyone built one to serve the customers you have in mind? Very likely not.

Good question. I haven't seen one that is widely adopted. The thing is is that payments is so simple with crypto that you can technically run your business from any conventional wallet. All additional features are abstractions on the wallet. In that light, I have seen people create both payroll and POS systems. I actually just heard about this company: tryspeed.com doing a POS system. I have heard of others as well. Coinbase Custody is in essence an institutional crypto bank account for a business. Long story short, the ability to merely store money and facilitate transactions is no longer a selling point for a crypto company, it's the rich feature-set on top that you are tailoring to a specific group of customers. Everyone has financial needs, the question is how are you interacting with your finances and how will this new product facilitate that better than predecessors.

Who is building the basic tools a business needs to operate entirely onchain? Basically bill.com + mercury?
