Happy Soul Power Day! 2/12/26 Today celebrates the premiere date of the definitive story of the American Basketball League. It especially honors the men and women 50 years ago who fought a giant and changed the sport of basketball, and American culture, forever! 🙏❤️🤍💙

It’s Women’s History Month. One six year old student in Kindergarten in Kentucky highlighted Ellie Brown as her favorite female leader. Ellie was featured in a women’s leadership lesson pack along with Hellen Keller, Michelle Obama, Mae Jemison and others. Love this 🙌🙏🙋‍♀️

What a spectacular book. All done. ABA into NBA. Moses and Dr. J impact, opposites attracting, 76ers finally winning it and so much more. Hoops and culture and everything in-between. Wonderful job, @LukeEpplin, and thanks for coming on the MLSP. 🏀🏀🏀

Moses Malone with the Spirits of St. Louis, 20 years & just two years out of high school. His time there was brief but in the 2nd to last game in Spirits history he showed a glimpse of what he would become with 32 pts and 15 reb. against the Colonels

Today's ABA post from my childhood collection is "Jumbo" Jim Eakins. Jim was a leading rebounder for the Squires and also made the 73-74 all-star game. Went to BYU and was selected by the Warriors in the NBA draft...

This was supposed to be a 1970 ABA Finals preview. Indiana did their part but Haywood’s epic rookie season ended in the Western Finals thanks to fellow rookie Mack Calvin and the LA Stars, led by coach Bill Sharman. 2 years later both Haywood and Sharman were in the NBA.

Hey, I’ve got an idea. Let’s all watch Julius Erving not fake the funk on some nasty dunks for about 90 seconds.

@abathrowbacks Yes. Glen’s dad Morton was greatest high school coach I’ve ever known. Even better person.

The pride and joy of Carr Creek High School was Glen Combs. His father was legendary Coach Morton Combs whose Indians won 1956 KHSAA boys’ state basketball tourney. Glen was considered one of the premier ABA 3-point shooters and had a record 103 in 1971-72.

@abathrowbacks According to @terrypluto in Loose Balls, the name Chaparrals (which is another name for a roadrunner) came because one of the first meetings the owners group had was in the Chaparral Room at the Dallas Sheraton. So, there.
