Chimpanzees in Uganda have sparked a “civil war” A group of around 200 chimpanzees has split into two rival factions. The conflict began back in 2015 after the deaths of several males who had maintained balance within the group. More aggressive individuals took their place. By 2018, the situation escalated into open conflict. One faction began systematically attacking the other, with such clashes often resulting in the deaths of males. For science, this is extremely rare, as such conflicts among chimpanzees are almost never observed.
