A Madurai court today sentenced nine Tamil Nadu cops to death in the 2020 Sathankulam custodial deaths case, calling it “rarest of rare.” On 19 Jun 2020 in Sathankulam, Thoothukudi, P. Jayaraj (60) was picked up for keeping his shop open past lockdown hours. It was a petty violation, something that would normally attract a fine. Instead, he was taken to the police station and beaten. Word reached his son, J. Bennix (31), who came to the station. When Bennix arrived and saw his father already assaulted, he protested and argued with the police. That confrontation became the turning point. Instead of de-escalating, the police turned on both of them with far greater intensity. What followed was not sporadic violence but sustained custodial torture. Through the night, both men were stripped and repeatedly beaten with lathis. Eyewitnesses later described continuous assault: blow after blow, hour after hour, targeting not just the limbs and back but also lathis forced into their rectums. The violence was methodical and prolonged, not a sudden burst of anger. Their blood was splattered across the station walls, and they were made to clean the floor of their own blood multiple times. The next morning, they were taken to a govt hospital and, shockingly, declared “fit” for custody despite requiring changes of six lungis due to profuse rectal bleeding. They were then produced before magistrate D. Saravanan, who remanded them to custody without examining their condition or speaking to them directly, citing COVID protocols. He reportedly stood on his balcony while police surrounded the injured men below and, without following basic safeguards against custodial abuse, signaled the police to take them away. The two were then sent to Kovilpatti sub-jail, about 100 km from Sathankulam. Both died within the next few days. This wasn’t some distant, dark chapter from history. This happened in 2020, just a few years ago, out in the open, without fear of law, backlash, or consequence. And that’s what makes it worse. Police brutality is routine, not an exception. For every case that shocks the nation, there are countless others that never surface. Many don’t report because they fear the very system meant to protect them. Social media occasionally forces attention, but justice shouldn’t depend on something going viral. Sadly, this will continue because governments are apathetic towards police reforms.

Never ever take a Zoomcar. They ruined our trip and left us stranded. What happens when you rent a Zoomcar and the police seize it mid-highway? We had a ridiculous experience with @Zoomcar_India in Jaipur. Last Sunday, we booked a car in Jaipur to drive to Ranthambore. Number plate was masked on the app, so no idea what we were getting. We reached the car and it’s a Gujarat (GJ) white plate vehicle. I felt uncomfortable instantly, but it was too late to change the vehicle - this was the only 7 seater option available in the city. The owner reassured: “No issues. It’s been on Zoomcar for 4 months. Cops won't stop. Take my number if anyone stops you.” Within 45 minutes, we got stopped by the police. They seize the car, take the keys, park it in some random plot and ask us to call the owner. Owner proudly tells them that he’s been renting it out for months and never faced an issue. Police is adamant that this is illegal (and rightly so). The owner needs to visit the RTO and pay up. Any commercial vehicle playing for that long in RJ needs to pay Road Tax here + convert to yellow plate if used commercially. Road Tax alone would come to around Rs. 1.5 Lakhs. And then the cops just leave. So now we’re just standing there, at 38°C, in a random area off the highway. Owner doesn’t show up. Says it’s a Zoomcar problem and that he'll wait for their legal team to deal with this. Zoomcar support? Useless! “Err, It’s Sunday, our team will come tomorrow. And since your booking is still live, please don’t leave the spot; if any damage happens to the car, it’ll still be your responsibility.” Tomorrow??? And don't leave the spot??? We’re stuck in a live police situation and your solution is wait till tomorrow? We stood there for almost 2 hours before we could even figure out what to do next. Because of this: – Missed a ₹28,000 safari – Paid ₹12,000 extra for last-minute transport – Entire day gone After all this and 7 days of escalations, Zoomcar calls and says they’ll “refund the booking amount.” Think about this. No one would know the legalities of vehicle rules better than them. Yet, they listed this. And then abandoned us mid-crisis. And honestly - what if this happened at night, to a woman travelling alone? You hand over an illegal car and then disappear? I've been chasing Zoomcar for a week now. Let's see where this ends. @Deepankar8 @Zoomcar__India @nch1915 @jagograhakjago

Since an FIR has been filed against me, I want to ask the Health Minister a few questions. JP Nadda ji, why is FSSAI going after those who are raising questions instead of those accused of wrongdoing? In a Democracy, does an ordinary citizen not have the right to question alleged irregularities in public institutions? We exposed alleged corruption and irregularities in FSSAI’s recruitment process. Instead of investigating the matter, FIRs are being used against those speaking in the public interest. Is this accountability or an attempt to intimidate and silence dissent?

Just see the level of toxicity in this Indian Muslim family where the wife Yasmeen Khan ran a beauty parlour where she invited Hindu girls for free beauty parlor courses. And when these girls came she used to spike their drinks. When they used to became unconscious, she used to call her husband Mohammed Sharif Khan who used to r@pe them. The wife meanwhile used to guard the reception while his husband r@ped the Hindu girls & video recorded his act to blackmail Hindu girls to have s€x with more Muslims. When police asked the wife why she offered young Hindu girls to her husband for r@ping them, she said that they will get Jannat as she is helping r@ping kafir girls who deserved to be r@ped by Muslims. Hindus needs to be extra beware & should not allow their children's to be in contact with anyone of them. They are crooked evil people

A. Rishi Kumar, a final-year student of Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), did not bow to pressure from the University to delete the article, titled “The Supreme Court of India has no Spine”. Here he criticised the Supreme Court’s ban on a Class 8 NCERT civics textbook and its decision to blacklist its authors for their mention of judicial corruption. He wrote "The Court has decided, in its grand old wisdom, that eighth graders, who are doing algebra and learning refractions, are simply too dumb to handle a basic civics chapter that spends fourteen pages praising the judiciary and two paragraphs acknowledging its flaws." My respect to Rishi. You are awesome! Anyone want to read the article, ask me in comments - I shall provide you the link.

An example from the past illustrating how UGC rules, if implemented, can be weaponised to settle personal vendettas: Dr. Vaibhav Jain was a meritorious student at Indore Medical College in 2012. His MBBS classmate, Neha Verma, asked him to fill the medical entrance exam form again and sit behind her sister Pooja in the exam to tell her answers and help her pass. Vaibhav refused. Neha got angry and retaliated by creating a fake Facebook profile in his name and uploading obscene content, then implicated him under the SC/ST Act, alleging he used casteist slurs. Vaibhav spent 50 days in jail and even took his second-year exams in handcuffs. Despite completing MBBS, the case blocked his chances of a govt job. He fought a six-year legal battle before being acquitted. But imagine the trauma, embarrassment, struggle, and stigma he and his family endured for no fault of theirs. UGC rules add an internal, low-threshold complaint route where allegations can trigger immediate academic or administrative action without rigorous scrutiny. Along with the SC/ST Act, this can be used to escalate pressure and settle scores faster.

Wow, the Ladki Bahin Yojana in Maharashtra has removed close to 90 lakh women after a digital verification drive. This was done after cross-checking income and vehicle records. The beneficiaries reduced from 2.6 crore to 1.53 crore and ~ ₹17,000 crore in spending saved.

Ankita Gupta had come to Varanasi for a sightseeing trip. On Monday evening, she was admiring the beauty of Assi Ghat when a cunning thief snatched her iPhone and fled. Ankita immediately filed a complaint at the local Bhelupur police station. The police merely registered a report regarding the missing mobile phone, treating it as a mere formality. Ankita was utterly astonished by the police's lethargy. When the police said they could not trace the phone's location, Ankita, a software engineer, decided to take matters into her own hands. Utilising her technical expertise, she began tracking the phone's IMEI number using a specialised app. Ankita then personally set out to locate the mobile phone. Around 2:00 AM, the location appeared to stabilise in the Chandpur area, approximately six kilometres away from Assi Ghat. Ankita ventured into that area all alone. The mobile phone's location signal was pinpointed to a specific house there. After much persistence on Ankita's part, the police finally arrived at the scene. Yet, even then, the police did not bother to search the room; instead, they offered only perfunctory assurances and left. Ankita returned to the vicinity of the same house at 5:00 AM. By now, it was morning, so she sought assistance from the local residents. She inquired about the specific room where the mobile phone's location had been indicated. It was revealed that the house belonged to Rajendra Patel, and the room in question had been rented to a tenant. The room was locked from the outside, and the occupant was nowhere to be found. When the lock was finally opened, the sight that greeted them left everyone stunned: scattered across the room, along with Ankita's iPhone, lay 15 to 20 other expensive mobile phones.

As more videos of Tarun are appearing on X, I am getting emotional. It seems he was a 'full of life' person, a proud Hindu lion. He didn’t deserve to die in such a way at the age of 25 If this killing cannot awaken the consciousness of Hindus, then we are already dead.
