@TenreiroDaniel It’s probably fine, I got this after bringing my phone in the ocean and dismissed it and used my phone for years after. I think it’s tuned to have a lot of false positives

Arnie McNair 🇺🇸@therealmcnair·
Update from the trenches on Monday morning. After a lot of thought this weekend, we’ve decided to move Arnie McNair to a different model. Beginning with our July release, we will no longer offer pre-orders on apparel. The only exception will be Eisenhower belts and wallets. Moving forward, we’ll make inventory before opening orders and then ship directly to customers. This means less inventory and harder to get. OG buyers will continue to have a short window ahead of time. But our goal is simple: get your order to you within 1-2 weeks. Made-to-order was essential in getting this business off the ground. It allowed us to build something special without taking unnecessary risks. But as we’ve grown, we’ve learned that too many variables in the process are outside our control. Delays are frustrating for customers and frustrating for us. We believe it’s time to evolve. As for the spring release, we are continuing to ship cashmere sweaters and the remaining belt orders. The rest of the spring inventory is scheduled to arrive over the next 1-2 weeks. Arnie polos and McNair polos are arriving this week, with shorts following shortly after. As inventory lands, we’ll begin shipping immediately and work as quickly as humanly possible to get everything into your hands. Due to an abundance of inquiries, we made the decision to split ship visors and towels and absorb the additional cost ourselves in order to get those items to customers as quickly as possible. Hopefully many of you received those over the last week. If you received a visor or towel but are still waiting on shorts, polos, sweaters, or other items from your order, that does not mean we missed anything. Those items are still coming and will ship as inventory arrives. We’ll also be opening a short fall belt order window over the next 1-2 weeks. That window will remain open for approximately one week and will include our legacy belt colors, along with a new tan ostrich option and a black alligator belt. As always, belts and wallets will continue to operate under the made-to-order model. The July release will include three striped polos, our new George pique polo in three colors, and a limited run of Supima cotton McNair pocket tees. Thank you for your continued support of Arnie McNair. We are incredibly grateful for every customer who has trusted us along the way. We can’t wait to hear your reviews and continue building this thing together. Onward.

@barrenoon @elhrikho @bobbyfijan Yes it is, big public school districts use the same standard document for everything so when they send a students records over to a college it basically has everything. In Miami they even included our vaccination records lmao

I'm surprised more applicants don't "lie" about their race Colleges have zero incentive to check on people, and could never risk outsourcing to visual cues ... and they will *never* write down an objective standard or blood test to qualify for any specific race
Alex Mas@AMLabEcon

I often get asked by parents, what does my kid need to achieve to earn a place at UC Berkeley? The answer is, I don’t know. There used to be an implicit social contract that if a California resident excels in school and is a very high achiever, there would be a predictable path to one of the leading campuses of the University of California system. Until the early-2000s this was explicit in that between 50-75% of incoming classes had to be admitted on the basis of academic criteria alone (GPA, SATs, APs). A high school student basically knew what they had to hit to get admitted to Cal. UCs no longer considers SAT/ACT scores, and letters of recommendation are generally not part of the application. The remaining academic record is heavily based on grades, course-taking, "school context", supplemented by personal insight questions (in the AI era!) and activities. But in an era of substantial grade inflation, transcripts have become a noisy signal. True academic achievement matters much less than it used to. The result is, while not literally random, highly unpredictable and illegible admissions. For California families, it is no longer clear what level of achievement is enough for their kids, or even what kind of achievement the system is trying to reward. I suspect that is not what most families in California want.

@barrenoon @elhrikho @bobbyfijan It’s not. When high schools send transcripts to college the students race is often at the top as one of the personal identifying details. Its incidentally there but it is there

@bobbyfijan You put your race down on many different documents over the course of K-12 (transcripts, AP tests, SAT, etc). If a school notices a discrepancy, then they could investigate further and find out the lie. No need to do a DNA test.

@Ekaeoq Is this CNC yours or are you borrowing it from somewhere? I’m currently renting time on one and it’s pretty annoying to have to travel to it

Yesterday’s first CNC session was a success, woho! The proof of concept is there, now it’s time to make 4 more pieces so we can start assembling the box. The first part came out a little smaller than I’d like, so we'll redo the CAD&CAM If everything goes well, tomorrow we’ll start gluing, sanding, and have the actual box ready for the titanium piece unique!

Oakland didn't know how bad the stolen vehicle problem was. Then Flock license plate readers generated 210,000+ alerts in six months! The volume was so high OPD called it "astronomical." See the full story. garryslist.org/posts/flock-fo…

last night i was picking up someone from the airport after midnight and standing by the baggage claim. a tall elderly woman (late 80s? 90s) walked up to me and standing way too close just stared at me for an uncomfortable length of time. finally she asked: "who are you?"

@TheFIREorg @HofstraU Wait...a guy who wrote, in formal complaint, "as is the costume" instead of "as is the custom", thinks that the only reason someone would call his speech "word salad" is racism?
