Global M2 global liquidity keeps pushing higher. Bitcoin doesn't. That's the disconnect I'm watching right now. The Global M2 Liquidity Index is sitting at new highs, yet Bitcoin is still trading well below its recent highs after the sharp correction we've seen over the past few weeks. A lot of people look at Bitcoin in isolation. I prefer looking at liquidity first. Historically, when global liquidity expands, risk assets eventually respond. That doesn't mean Bitcoin has to go up tomorrow. It doesn't mean the bottom is in. It simply means the macro backdrop is improving while Bitcoin hasn't fully reflected that yet. Either Bitcoin starts catching up to liquidity, or this relationship is about to break down in a way we haven't seen for quite some time.

For decades, global markets have relied on ultra-cheap Japanese capital to fund risk-taking around the world. That era is slowly coming to an end. Japan's economy is showing signs of stress, debt-servicing costs are rising, and the carry trade that fueled global liquidity is becoming less attractive. Yet Wall Street remains focused on AI headlines and record highs, largely ignoring one of the most important shifts in global monetary policy. The question isn't whether this matters. The question is whether markets are pricing in the consequences.

Bitcoin is doing exactly what I warned about yesterday. Price is moving back into the liquidity sitting above the market. So far, this looks like a textbook short squeeze. The big question now is what happens when the US market opens. My suspicion is that most of this move has been driven by futures, not spot buying. If that's the case, the risk hasn't gone away. Because if nobody is actually buying Bitcoin here, you're left with a move built on leverage. And leverage has a habit of unwinding very quickly. Today I'm watching to see whether spot buyers step in, or whether this move starts running out of steam.
