The US is going to have 30-40 million 80 yr olds driving because they don't have viable mobility options. 😱 Baby Boomers know how to look out for #1, so I'm hoping they demand local governments legalize walk-friendly, bike-friendly, transit-friendly neighborhoods.

🤯 Best read of the year so far? A book about surviving cancer for decades. "An Exercise in Uncertainty" by @Jon_Gluck is a ridiculously smart, deep, witty page-turner. I can't stop thinking about it, him, his family. You're welcome. a.co/d/3q7KL0l

In years since, walking became the dominant mode in the core. Public transport use grew. NO₂ levels dropped 30%. Retail sales rose, defying fears of economic decline. Despite attempts to dismantle it, Gran Vía shows cities can reclaim space from cars—and thrive because of it.🔚

Respectfully, as a conscientious e-bike user, unless all motor vehicle speeds are capped at 15 mph, I would be unnecessarily putting myself at greater risk by biking slower than the cars I share the road with - especially if I need to merge into traffic and/or take the lane.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

I’ve heard it in every neighborhood: New Yorkers are worried about e-bikes flying by and putting their families and children at risk.    Enough is enough.    We will soon be implementing a 15-MPH speed limit on e-bikes, so pedestrians AND riders can be safe on our streets.

Thank you @Sen_Gounardes for your leadership here calling for safety improvements next to the Brooklyn Marine Terminal site. We were happy to join the walk to support the neighbor-led advocacy effort. @TransAlt @TransAltBK
State Senator Andrew Gounardes@Sen_Gounardes

Neighbors expressed concern about traffic safety on Columbia St by the BQE, so we went to check it out ourselves. Families should be able to get to Van Voorhees Playground without fearing for their lives. I’ll work with neighbors to get @NYC_DOT to make this intersection safer.

The big lie of architectural education Last week I had the opportunity to visit a bucket list place of mine, @LasCatalinas in Costa Rica. This new community was conceived of by @charlesbrew and dates only to 2006 for the property acquisition. So in less than 20 years, his team has built what’s in the photos. Simply put, the community is gorgeous. It’s humane, being largely car-free. It’s kid-friendly. It’s beautifully integrated into the hilly landscape. But mostly what was on my mind is what this place tells me about the six years of architecture school I had, way back when….

As a mayor of Jersey City, I don't think anyone in the state has more direct experience in the state than I do when it comes to mass transit. As Governor, I would cancel the turnpike widening project and reallocate the money to create a system that is safe, reliable and clean. Second. when they passed the funding source, they only did it for 5 years which doesn't fix the problem - this needs to be changed. And last, I would bring our bus system back in house to ensure they are running efficiently. You can read more about my policy plans on transit here: stevenfulop.com/wp-content/upl…

No one asked the majority of NYers who don’t own a car if they wanted their curbs used for free parking, but now the Council wants to require DOT to give notice every time they use curb space for public good instead of the free storage of private property nyc.streetsblog.org/2024/12/18/cou…

imagine graduating from Harvard, producing a show at MSNBC, advising the Senate Budget Committee, and writing a book about US economic policy, only to be out-influenced by a guy who spent 15 years arguing about pants on an obscure menswear forum

While it's easy to rail against unnamed elites, there's a broad cultural problem among Dems in general. One beloved Dem Twitter account is that of a snob who mocks wardrobes for not being authentically aristocratic.

@DaveCoIon Honestly, the original sin of this project is the goal of rebuilding the CBE to begin with. The bypass is a distraction.
