Literally the most potent healing tool in medical history - one that Soviet balneologists, German and Austrian doctors, Czech physiologists, and even early American clinicians considered foundational. Entire resort-hospitals, state-funded institutes, and regional infrastructures were built around it. Today, it survives only in a few privileged European enclaves and the post-Soviet world. A warm alkaline bath. That you can recreate at home. Today. Documented to reduce sympathetic dominance, open peripheral circulation, improve bile flow, lower inflammatory sensitivity, and restore metabolic softness - across four separate scientific traditions. Soviet balneologists measured the effects in clinics: sympathetic tone drops, peripheral circulation opens, smooth muscle relaxes, bile starts moving, and inflammatory sensitivity falls. You feel it immediately. Heat + alkalinity pushes the body back into the state where healing is actually possible. Central Europe built entire hospitals around bicarbonate-rich waters for liver stagnation, biliary dyskinesia, stress disorders, circulatory rigidity, and inflammatory skin. Early American physicians documented the same autonomic shift: lower vascular resistance, lower lactate, calmer nerves, deeper sleep. People wonder why a simple bath hits harder than half the supplements they take - this is why: you’re lowering spasm, lowering prostaglandins, softening the biliary tree, raising CO₂ availability, restoring warmth, and shutting off a sympathetic system that’s been stuck “on” for years. RUQ tightness dissolves, digestion improves, skin clears, PMS symptoms ease, estrogen clearance improves. To recreate a true alkaline therapeutic bath at home: Base Formula: • 1 cup baking soda • 1 cup sea salt (Dead Sea, Mediterranean, or plain kosher - all fine) Temperature: • Hot, not warm - as warm as you can comfortably tolerate. Heat is what opens circulation and drops sympathetic tone. Duration: • 15–20 minutes Optional Add-On (Stronger Effect): + 1 cup magnesium chloride flakes Magnesium deepens smooth-muscle relaxation, improves bile flow, and softens tension. Do it 2-3 times a week or even daily. It costs almost nothing. It works because it’s built into the design of the human body. If you want the historical background and the science, I wrote a full article on it. It has scientists names, facts, history, beautiful pictures and many more. If you are too lazy to read it all, I implore you to at least try this easy hack today. Pic is just for fun

I stood in a house today talking to an older lady & as we were talking she was cleaning up her kitchen. She lined a cup with foil to make a template of the cup, then took the foil out and sat it in her sink drain & poured oil from a skillet in it, put paper towels in it to soak the oil up, then wadded it all up & threw it in the trash. I had never seen that before & was amazed. That's my new go to in order to get rid of oil. I have a simple mind👮😆

@sighswoon The Lindt version is genuinely so good- I bought the big version one day because they had just arrived in a shop nearby, so I wanted to try it and really enjoyed (it's also much thinner than the one in your pic btw, which makes it even better because of the crispness)

My one and only Dubai chocolate experience was being handed these for free at the Lindt shops in Switzerland. One was on a big snowy mountain. The other, at the train station. And it was just so delicious. And I didn’t realize it was pistachio. I love pistachio. I thought it was trying to be green and quirky and food dyed. But the pistachio was great. I’d buy one as a souvenir at the airport then leave it in the layover hotel’s fridge. A Kimpton in Philly, sharing a street with the liberty bell. It was very good. Back home on Venice beach, I’d see that the vendors were selling green sauce and chocolate sauce in a cup and calling it Dubai chocolate. Huge signs and pictures. Lots of fake labubus too. I saw a real Labubu at a Japanese store. Black market on Sawtelle. It was behind glass. I don’t remember what its theme or outfit was. I want that chocolate to find me again. But I don’t want to seek it out. Nothing can compare to that.

If you’ve dated an anxious person, you’d know this is funny cos yea, Avoidants are bad but you see anxious people, they’re worse. Avoidants control themselves when they get triggered, anxious people try to control you, it’s crazy. You could be going through it at work and an anxious person would hit you with “so you’ve forgotten me Abi”. They don’t know how to communicate, so they accuse.. “You didn’t call me today” “You’re not taking me seriously” “You’re making me feel like I’m disturbing you” all so you’ll apologize, they’d get that dopamine hit to signal “I’m not being abandoned” and life’s great again for them. It’s crazy cl

@SandyofCthulhu Absolutely at least psychologically addictive, in the way people may sometimes use non-substance things as a crutch for what ails them (reality, anxiety, life itself), because they need it to stave off the return of feelings they can’t deal with (at least in the moment).

I go to Germany every year (I’ll be there this May) and there was a fellow game company guy who used to always be at the same conventions. We were friends. This guy was a complete weedhead. To the point it hurt his company. When he came to Germany the first thing he did was to ensure he had marijuana available. He’d get the locals to buy it for him. I thought he was insane. Marijuana was a crime (this was pre-2024) and he could be fined up to €30,000 or even do prison time or (I assume) be banned from Germany. Those sounded like extreme risks to take just so he wouldn’t have to go a Whole Week without weed. I’ve been informed that usually German police turned a blind eye but in theory that guy risked a LOT just for a few tokes. All it would take was one eager beaver looking askance at the convention of wacky gamers and bam! My pal is in Germany jail. So yeah I am convinced weed can be at least psychologically addictive.

@lisavsworld When I’ve been depressed, I’ve also been enable to cry- makes me wonder if it’s a chicken-vs-egg thing (is the lack of crying causing depression, or is depression causing me to be unable to cry? Either way it’s a perpetual paradox in that it persists, feeding itself in symptoms).

This is how female biology works. I was stressed out all day. My heart rate was between 120-130. And then I had to figure out how to turn my water off and change a water filter in my fridge. I was already very stressed out, so the extra challenge on to of the stress made me cry. I then cried again for unrelated reasons. My heart rate is now 75 (about 10 above my normal resting). Crying reduces stress. It lowers cortisol and releases oxytocin and endorphins.

i stopped having this one energy/supplement drink i've been using for like 8 years and my anxiety went away and i am happy about that but OMG I AM SO MAD AT MYSELF FOR NOT MAKING THE CONNECTION it had guarana, ginseng, green tea extract, plus large amounts of B12 and B6, and 55mg caffeine. i think it only messed me up on days where i had a bit of coffee in addition, but maybe not even? i used to get this regular 2pm anxiety and i attributed it to job stress, even though i would sometimes get it on days when i was not working and literally chilling with an audiobook and some legos or something else super relaxing. i just thought my body had learned a pattern ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ugh it sounds so dumb when i look at it written out. 8 years, man. glad i figured it out but fuuuuuck

The name should have been your prime clue: The surname McCall is of Scottish Gaelic origin, meaning "son of the battle chief" or "son of Cathal," reflecting its warrior heritage. The McCall surname was first recorded in Scotland in the early 16th century, particularly in Argyllshire, corresponding to the ancient Kingdom of Dál Riata. Historical records also show McCall families in Dumfriesshire and other regions of Scotland, with early mentions of individuals such as John M'Call in 1583 and Matthew McCall in 1607.

All my life, my whole family thought we were Irish. I always made corned beef and cabbage on St. Patty's Day. I love corned beef! We thought we were Irish because we have a lot of redheads in the family. Plus, our tree shows that our family, the McCalls, immigrated from Ireland in the mid-1800s. In 2009, I even took my daughter on a trip to Ireland to show her the country our family came from. Then I did my DNA. Turns out, we have no Irish at all. Not even a fraction of a percent. We're Scottish. The McCalls originated in Scotland and immigrated to Ireland in the 1600s. Guess I'll have to take a trip to Scotland one day. 🤷‍♀️

I grew up a little different than most people. 3 of my 4 siblings have special needs. My one sister passed away before she turned 1. My other sister is high functioning and can do somethings tho she will probably always live with my parents. This is my youngest brother. He is 28 years old. Non verbal, autistic and has something called microcephaly. He’s not potty trained, needs help eating, and needs 24 hour care. He can say basic words like mom and dad, water, hot dog, car, etc. but it’s a tender mercy attending church with him Sundays. When he hears a song like love one another, or silent night, or popcorn popping, he will sing along with it somehow. He will actually string words together the best he can with a smile on his face while he’s singing. It brings a tear to my eye when I hear it. I think often of Gods commandment to become like a child and I wonder how? How can I do that? Submissive, meek, full of humility and kindness. I can’t remember what it’s like to be a child! But then I see someone with special needs and the kindness and love they show, of their tenderness and innocence and love and I am reminded. Oh yes, that is how. People think being in a family with siblings with special needs is hard and a “trial” maybe there is some truth to that. But after growing up like this. I feel like it’s the opposite. I’m blessed beyond anything I can imagine to be around children of God who love the way He did and it reminds me to try and be a better person so I can be with them all in the next life.

Perfect find! You can find these all day for ~200 bucks and they are a great deal even at that price. As someone who spent the past 13 years designing commercial furniture I can tell you there is no comparison between a used Aeron and your typical 200-500$ residential office chair. These are "contract grade" chairs that meet commercial standards above and beyond typical residential furniture. The Aeron is also a great buy both because of how popular they were and the nature of the chair itself. There is no upholstery to be stained or hidden foam that could be in disgusting condition (besides for a very thin layer hidden at the very front of the seat pan). You can return this chair to factory new condition with dish soap and a garden hose, but avoid the power washer, you don't want to blast the grease out of the mechanism. The Aeron is great but you can find a ton of other great used office chairs at around the 200$ mark, the Steelcase Leap V2 and the Herman Miller Mirra are common ones you may see.

There is a research paper on why it is difficult to walk with a coffee mug w/o spilling, & it even explores ways to reduce spills, including walking backwards & using the claw hand grip. A cylindrical coffee mug filled halfway has a natural sloshing frequency of about 4 Hz. When we walk, the oscillation of our hands also tends to hit roughly 4 Hz (especially the 2nd harmonic of our stride). This creates Parametric Excitation. The energy from our step pumps the liquid higher & higher with every step until it crests the rim, usually around the 7th/10th step. Author of the paper han tested several hacks to break this resonance: The Claw Grip: By holding the rim from the top with our fingers (the Claw), we increase the length of the pendulum b/w our shoulder & the liquid. This lowers the frequency of our hand's motion to about 1.7 Hz, safely away from the coffee’s 4 Hz danger zone. Walking Backwards: This forces the body into an unnatural, non-periodic motion. Cos our brain has to focus more on balance, it breaks the rhythmic 4 Hz stride, effectively de-tuning the system. It won him an Ig Nobel Prize :))

For some mathematicians, it's not just the coffee they drink, but the mug they drink it in.

I used Colgate, a fluoride-based toothpaste, twice a day, every day since I was a child. Little did I realize that Fluoride competes with iodine at thyroid receptor sites. Same receptors and direct competition. Your thyroid needs iodine to produce T3 and T4. Fluoride blocks the door. You're delivering a thyroid-suppressing chemical through the most absorbent tissue in your body. Twice daily. And your dentist told you it was essential. Hydroxyapatite toothpaste remineralizes teeth without touching your endocrine system. Been around for decades. Japan uses it as standard.

People who don’t knit have been enraged and confused by my post with yarn in color and black and white. Colors can look nice in the same knitting project but be less than ideal for stranded colorwork designs. Let me see if I can explain better. The purple and blue are nice colors that look well together. Unfortunately, they do not contrast well with one another or the tan color used in the first cowl. The design is easier to see in the photo than in real life - I think my phone camera is auto applying some filters/adjustments. A simple tweak to the colors brought more contrast and visibility to the pattern, as you can see with the second cowl. Due to photo limits, the second cowl will be in a comment on this post. Now can y’all see what I mean about checking yarn with the black and white filter?

The last time I discussed BYOD I got TROUNCED in the comments 😂 so maybe now that hacker MG is saying it, it'll make a difference? I carry two phones if I have to. The company is never getting access to any personal device of mine because aside from it being a security risk for me it's also security risk for them given all the toxic shit I have on my computers. Also in lawsuits they get to keep your personal devices so that's never happening.
MG@_MG_

If you use a personal phone/laptop for your work, pay very close attention to this little detail. Iran attackers wipe 200k devices at a company called Stryker. Within those devices appears to be employees PERSONAL devices. The attackers used the company’s MDM software, which is basically IT management software running on everything. It’s an incredibly attractive backdoor to an attacker. I successfully targeted MDM software for several Red Team engagements. It’s… lots of fun :) Anyway, a lot of companies require you to install their MDM software on your personal devices before you can access resources like Corp email. It’s used to keep devices updated, lock things down if they get stolen, etc. The company often promises that they won’t access personal data, erase any personal data, etc. But this is often ONLY POLICY. If a bad actor gains access to the MDM tool, as was the case here, then anything can happen. People should be aware of these risks. I refused to run MDM software on any of my personal devices. The company needs to provide me with hardware if they want that. I personally isolate all corp devices to their own network too. If an adversary can get into the corp laptop, then can then get inside my network… there have been cases of it happening in the past.
