It’s why we voted for the bipartisan independent commission in 2020. We voted to avoid political power grabs.

That's misleading. Iranian flagged vessels are of course fair game to be sunk. Typically, third-party countries the ships would be boarded, cargo inspected, if in violation directed to port for confiscation of the cargo. Once liberated of the cargo the third-party ship is free to go anywhere but the blockaded country.
