@levelsio @ArthurODS_ Unfortunately true, the average pizza in Brazil is not good. Only in São Paulo you can find consistently good pizza. Everywhere else you have to know where to go. Unless you’re ok with some crazy stuff they call pizza.

Pieter is starting to realize how bad of a job Brazilians did exporting our food culture. All foreigners know about Brazilian food is related to all you can eat steakhouses. Although those are great, that’s not what we eat daily.

🇧🇷 Another Brazilian buffet, I didn't want to be annoying making a video because kinda busy but this one extra interesting because it was at the airport in Viracopos near Sao Paulo It's Azul Airlines' main airport, Azul means blue and is the same founder and CEO as JetBlue in America, his name @davidneeleman He's also interesting because his grandfather was born to Dutch immigrants in Utah! But then he himself was born in Sao Paulo, and lived there until he was 5 years old, then he moved to the US where he founded JetBlue, WestJet and a few more airlines Later he came back to Brazil to start Azul which quickly became the biggest airline here It's similar to JetBlue, it's not luxury but also not cheap, it's comfortable but basic, but with great service etc. Anyway back to the buffet, it's great the airport has a buffet cause it means you can eat healthy which is always a big problem when you're traveling Today I had steak, chicken, eggs, potatoes, some rice and beans and tomatoand cucumber with sparkling water BOM APETITE 🇧🇷

@0xEthanS If you can find a Brazilian restaurant I’d recommend trying our basic dishes, which use rice and beans as base, then a good steak and vegetables. Sounds boring but the secret is in the seasoning. Check @levelsio posts about the buffets, they represent well our typical lunch.

@levelsio Every time I have to explain people that Favelas are not touristic attractions. It’s a sad reality of my home country, but it’s not a people zoo where you go take pictures.

Related I love Brazil but it does an absolutely terrible job marketing itself to the world All foreigners know about Brazil is favelas, carnaval and football, that's what I knew before too as a European coming here in the last 3 years The reality is completely different My friend visiting now "my dream is to visit the favela in Rio" I have to explain that no the wish of Brazilians is not to visit a favela There's much more beautiful things in Brazil than people robbing and murdering innocent people on the street every day (But I do like baile funk)
@levelsio@levelsio

@drochetti Even Brazilians make this mistake Replies under my Brazil buffet tweets are always "omg u should go to churrascaria" even from Brazilians You don't go to a churrascaria every day, it's too much meat!

@levelsio Exactly, it’s a special occasion type of place and we don’t realize that we should export our mundane daily food, that is quite amazing. I find Mexican, Thai, Indian and Vietnamese places everywhere here in the US but barely any Brazilian restaurants.

@levelsio Viracopos AirPort is amazing. I used to fly there a lot ~15 years ago and it looked like a bus terminal. Last year I flew there and omg, what a transformation! So many food options, clean, not crowded.

🇧🇷 New Brazilian buffet tour This one is interesting because it's inside a church Brazil (like South America) is VERY religious, 87% of the population is Christian Compare that to the Netherlands, where I'm from, where it's now just 30%, and similar for large parts of Europe, which is ironic because Christendom of course came from Europe Many things in Brazil and South America are ironic where they are in ways more European than Europe is these days Many churches here like the one in my video at the end are Evangelical, a conservative type of Protestantism. The churches remind me a bit of those TV churces you'd see in the US. Much bigger and more modern than we generally have in Europe Anyway back to the buffet, as always lots of meat and veggies and rice and beans, it can be very healthy if you pick right. And you self-check out by weighing the food and paying per kilogram, very smooth Also free coffee is included! Unfortunately in plastic cups (unacceptable 😂) so we skipped that one but nice My lunch was 788 gram for $13 at $17/kg Every time I post about this I get cancelled by Brazilian for being "a dumb foreigner paying too much" which may be correct as I am starting to realize Curitiba and South Brazil are NOT cheap Then again nowhere is cheap anymore with currency devaluation Apparently the Brazilian government also organizes these buffets cheaper but subsidized by them to help everyone get fed, so it'd be cool to show you that one next time ✌️

@crutchcorn It’s an unfair request because it would require us to revisit what problem it aims to solve and then we can discuss options and trade-offs. Plus it doesn’t make my claims invalid.

useEffect isn't a bad or poorly designed API; it's a primitive on which to build your own APIs on top of. The educational and tooling corrections towards avoiding usage is broadly a net positive, but the cultural misinformation that it's a "bad design" is a net negative.

we are hiring across the board for our product and design teams! once in a lifetime opportunity to work with @adamho @radilson and @drochetti fal.ai/careers/410505…
adam ho@adamho

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m excited to join @fal as the new Head of Design. I’ve been collaborating with @gorkem and @burkaygur on the fal brand closely over the past few years, so it all made (too) much sense to continue this journey on a more permanent basis (and they could pull me out of FT-retirement). Excited to explore the space of generative media and work alongside the brightest minds. As for the studio, I’ll be still taking on projects under my studio still but on a much much more limited basis. 😌

@levelsio Yeah, I’m not claiming things should be easy. I’m just talking about the specific Brazil - Italian arrangement. It exists for a reason. I’m an Italian descent myself but I believe it’s fair to revisit the arrangement, it’s been 100+ years.

@drochetti But there was no such things as social welfare in Brazil The Italians that came to Brazil around 1910 I believe, they were scraping by and hustling Very different system available for people coming to Europe to seek free money

I think I agree with you kind of But I think citizenship should still be possible to get after 10 years of cultural assimilation, learning the language, large financial tax and spending contributions, real work, absolutely zero crime (okay a speeding ticket is fine but not much else), like I'm a positive immigrant in Portugal and should get rewarded for that More than that though I think welfare should ONLY be for citizens not for residents It should be practically impossible to get free government money as a non-citizen, that includes unemployment, social housing, income support (free money), and even healthcare: healthcare can be insured privately for non-citizens fine with insurance companies, there's no reason the government should be paying for non-citizens I remember during COVID, entrance to many countries as a tourist required getting private healthcare, I got that to enter Thailand in 2021 All these welfare programs when they started in the 1960s were meant for citizens, not residents You'll see how unattractive Europe becomes for welfare seekers overnight when you do this And you'll be left with people coming to Europe who actually want to contribute! The GOOD immigrants!
@dwjorgeb@dwjorgeb

I don't understand why we need to easily grant citizenship to immigrants, regardless where they are from. Want to get residency here and work here and help the country? Sure, welcome! But why do you need citizenship? Why should it be easy to get an European passport? People work all their life in the UAE, Singapore or many other places without ever getting citizenship there, why is it such a big deal to grant European citizenship

@lucasradaelli Se eles postam coisas interessantes daí vale. O problema é a UX dos stories somado ao tipo de conteúdo que a maioria das pessoas compartilham. Mas de fato tem coisa interessante, o problema é conseguir filtrar

hey @theo , loving my first ride on @t3code but one immediate piece of feedback is there's a lot of use of muted text where I understand they should be lighter than the base foreground color but not that light. Other than that, it feels great so far, kudos to the team!

@harsh_logs @shadcn Still my point is that text-foreground and text-muted-foreground isn’t enough for a design system for example. But shadcn whole point is that from the moment you install it it’s yours to customize, so think it’s fine. It could have a better foundation though.

@drochetti @shadcn the gap isn't tokens, it's that most design systems are built for consistency, not for the chaos of actually shipping customized products.
