For me at least, my dissatisfaction with these games isn’t because the protagonists are female. It’s the constant push for “equality” that often feels more like forced representation and rewriting of established lore in big-budget titles lately. I can see the argument that female representation is trying to catch up, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of good storytelling and respecting the source material. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn or Tomb Raider proved that strong female leads can work great when done organically.
