@myhandle @KelseyTuoc You can also get a Transbay bus to the Salesforce terminal - we live in Oakland right on the F bus line and it's so quick and civilized

@KelseyTuoc we're already here but don't have a permanent home, and almost certainly set on SF because the commute from East Bay is really long for me. but we're more Berkeley people at heart, so if you know of a great house for rent near the BART and Oakland LEARN we could be convinced

friends, my family is looking to rent a house in SF but we're getting applicationmogged by zillowmaxxers. please share any advice on bribing agents, invites to housing GCs, trustworthy brokers, listing aggregators, or leads on a good 3BR in a kid-friendly neighborhood

@Super70sSports @dilanesper I still use them! Women's One-a-Day make me nauseous and a friend had her OB tell her to just use Flintstones when the pre-natal vitamins were making her nauseous

Sarah Longwell on why Democrats keep missing the mark with voters: "Americans wanna feel safe... there’s just like three key things they really want. They wanna be able to afford stuff... access to good education, affordable healthcare... but the next level is they wanna feel safe, right? So when it comes to crime and immigration... there has to be an orderly system." – @SarahLongwell25 on Raging Moderates

@binarybits It's all a diversion from the far bigger news story that Feb apparently had 30 days last year

Also, check out this train wreck of a spreadsheet Ed made to estimate Anthropic's revenue for 2025. He doesn't count February 1-10, counts March 1-10 twice, counts August 21-October 21 as one month instead of two, and doesn't count October 21-November 1.

In a recent legal filing, Anthropic said that its revenue "exceed[ed] $5 billion to date." @edzitron says other Anthropic statements indicate it was more than $6 billion and that "these two statements do not match up." But, um, $6 billion exceeds $5 billion?

No, America's wealthy pay similar effective tax rates to Europe - and even 100% tax rates would not fix the budget. The current debt was heavily influenced by the Great Recession & Pandemic (and the federal response) and persistent, structural spending in excess of revenues.🧵

We’ve fought for more than a decade to bring back 8th grade algebra for kids who are ready & interested. We’re finally on the verge, but the school district’s new proposal creates a significant barrier — requiring kids who want to take algebra in 8th grade to also take regular 8th grade math. Kids shouldn’t be required to take two math classes, which will simply force them to give up an elective. The district should avoid this barrier & let 8th graders choose to take algebra as their sole math class.
GrowSF@GrowSF

🚨 We need you to take action 🚨 We fought to bring back 8th grade algebra. SFUSD’s proposed version forces kids to give up an elective to take it. That’s not real access. Send an email and demand real flexibility and advancement options growsf.org/advocacy/8th-g…

Calling IVF techniques "molecular rape" is a stunning new form of discourse I didn't even realize was theoretically possible. Consent, but going individual cell by individual cell. This is going to be in some critical theory paper by next year.
Uju Anya@UjuAnya

This is molecular rape. The egg chooses specific sperm that its own conditions favor. Implanting nanobots to force sperm into the egg and override its selection process is a violation of a human being’s body at the most basic level.

@ReichlinMelnick To be fair I can see why this makes some folks mad at us in CA - we basically welcome illegal immigrants and then get more representation in the House. It's not some evil plan, but it does work out this way.

Right on the "legal, mandatory" part. If you want to follow the Constitution, you have to count undocumented immigrants in the Census for redistricting. The Constitution could not be more clear; all "whole persons" count. Any other interpretation is in the secret meanings realm.
David Weigel@daveweigel

"They're registering the illegals to vote" (illegal) is fake; "they want the illegals to count in the census for redistricting" (legal, mandatory) is not fake.

@aarmlovi @ModeledBehavior Massachusetts already ran this experiment! I saw run-down buildings finally get repaired when rent control was rolled back in the 1990's!! We have the memory of a gnat 🙄

The rent regulation literature has always been a tough read, but it's genuinely stunning to see the intellectual father of universal healthcare in the US warn this sharply against rent control in Massachusetts
Jonathan Berk@berkie1

"There is now unambiguous, solid economic evidence, not just abstract economic theory, that rent control would make the affordability problems facing [Massachusetts] worse, not better." - Jon Gruber, Chairman of the Economics Department at MIT
