@chriscooperwcu even w/o the partisan politics aspect, Jackson has to be one of the most challenging geographies & population distributions of any small county. i suspect it has an unusually mismatched daytime pop/job center VS nighttime residential distribution, even discounting WCU factor.

@SonOfODell @gercohen @chriscooperwcu the old NCSU site was at Pullen Park by the belltower, right? i recall the site being very popular & lacked parking to handle the volume. it was far from most dorms, the student center, Wolfline bus hubs, etc, so the new site on Western may be more convenient to most students?

The Wake County Board of Elections last night unanimously adopted an 18-site early voting plan that will have voting all 17 days Oct 15-31 including 12 weekdays, three Saturdays and two Sundays. The 18 sites is the most ever in a Wake Co mid-term (2022 15 sites, 2018 10 sites.) The 18 include 7 in Raleigh city limits, 2 in Cary, 1 each in Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Knightdale, Wendell and Wake Forest, and 2 in unincorporated areas - Beech Bluff in Willow Spring and Wake Tech South (Main Campus) which despite a Raleigh address is actually between Garner and Fuquay. Floor area in the voting enclosure correlates with the number of voting booths and the number of voters that can be handled. Of the 18 Wake sites, three are over 10,000 square feet, seven are 5,000-9,999 s/f and eight are under 5,000. The smallest is the NCSU site at 1,094 s/f. See site list in image, maps and fliers suitable for distribution should be on the #wakeelections website next week.

@gercohen @chriscooperwcu love that i can walk 10-minutes to my early vote/precinct polling station, one of the nice unexpected highlights in the midst of bleakly car-centric suburban Sprawleigh living.

@TheAleksee GA is fairing better than NoVA or FL in the Trump 2 economy. but in the southeast there’s always competition in steady high growth states like NC, SC & TN, well positioned alternative destinations ready to siphon away high-quality job + transplant growth away from GA.

@TheAleksee the growth of “other demographics” staying robust is dependent on a strong job market + housing growth + a steady stream of immigration. GA is currently in recession/bust-cycle. population growth has cooled, overtaken by NC which is now projected to be larger by 2030.

@littlered1612 @himbopresident he didn’t skip leg day, dude is a lifelong New Yorker known for going out his way to take long walks. i guess genetics are brutal when it comes to calves, imagine schlepping as much as he does with NOTHING to show for it.

@JoshIsFAB @himbopresident those calves are definitely not “average” but that’s OK. genuinely astonishing that a New Yorker that walks as much as Mamdani would have those calves, though.

@himbopresident Mamdani has done such great work steering the American left away from the IDpol deadend. he deserves to indulge in a tiny bit of IDpol “represent my people”-ism by revealing his calves, as a treat.

@alexiswhat_ @TheAleksee CLT metro goes deep red immediately past the Mecklenburg County line, even Cabbarrus County is still pink. the border line is b/t Randolph County & Chatham County. west of the line is deep south polarization, except Asheville. east of the line is more midatlantic/midwestern.

@christoaivalis @MattZeitlin Ron Paul was always just a caricature of a white Texan, never understood why people considered him a “libertarian”.

@MattZeitlin Also, Ron Paul had taken some pretty openly white supremacist positions, and was anti-abortion He was never a libertarian in the common understanding. He was a market fundamentalist extremist.

@therealpauldahl @nikicaga @RoKhannaNews most of the “high IQ” ones are just rules-autists at heart. that’s why they’re pedos that bother to memorize & oppose age of consent rules instead of just going the Epstein route.

@TheAleksee i dunno what accounts for that difference but i doubt Bottoms has the magic GA Dems need to break their state-level curse.

@TheAleksee in GA the GOP started to dominate at-large elections for state-level offices post-2010 but Dems started to win at-large federal-level elections. NC is the opposite, Dems still wins Council of State post-2010 but GOP started to dominate federal elections.

@ArtoftheMil @TonyaMichelle65 @dogwoodblooms it’s BS. 30 yrs ago the beautiful trail next to the NC Museum of Art was a juvenile prison surrounded by barbed wire fencing. Hillsborough St was sketchy & full of street sleepers. Historic Oakwood had streetwalkers & crack dealers on the corners. DT was abandoned after 5PM.

@obxpilot23 @dogwoodblooms Thank you for not calling it "mid-town". Not sure why Raleigh insist on rebranding every neighborhood, but that will always be North Hills to me.

@TonyaMichelle65 @dogwoodblooms North Hills Mall was a dump before it was redeveloped. Raleigh never had much southern charm, it was never Charleston or Savannah. it was a decidedly unglamorous town of govt pencil pushers & professors. if anything there’s more good NC BBQ spots in Raleigh now than 30 yrs ago.

@FrappuccinoSlim @TheAleksee if anything out-of-state transplants tend to lean more GOP than NC natives, esp in the Triangle & eastern NC. the last GOP governor was from Ohio. the one before was born in GA, raised in SC.

@WWFerguson2 @TheAleksee it’s really not though, the eastern half (+ some rurals W & S of Asheville) has rural white split-ticket & dem voter contingents. that’s near nonexistent in SC & further south. NC is too rural to be putting up OH & NE lvl white dem vote %es solely w urban/suburban white voters.

@TheAleksee And where the rurals are still basically South Carolina. lol It's why despite the massive growth, it's still kind of "stuck" in the same position its been in politically for years now.
