My book is finally available worldwide. Please have a look at pythonfromscratch.com If you want to learn Python and have never programmed before (or tried and quit), it is a good option to learn the basics and other features of Python. I recommend the hardcover version, but it is also available in paperback and Kindle ebook. Same contents, different formats.

Imagine telling a surgeon: “Your 20 years of experience are impressive… but you couldn’t answer this riddle about scissors, so we’ll pass.” That’s software interviews.

In 1984, I got a Sinclair ZX-81 clone for Xmas, my first micro computer :-) My father and grand father were expecting I would give some rest to their calculators. It was a Brazilian clone called TK-85. Later on I got addicted to the Input magazine with lots of topics and software delivered every week… and adapted to Brazilian computer clones of Spectrum and Apple ][. They did a great translation job, but some images remained with the BBC micro and the commodore 64. The art was incredible. Now, 42 years later, I got my Commodore 64 last Saturday in Belgium. It is amazing how an old computer can bring joy and very good memories playing with friends. Due to Brazilian imports ban in the 80’s and early 90’s, I miss the Commodore 64 and later the Amiga. Moving from Apple ][e clones to Msx clones during high school and Ibm pc clones later on. What a time!

I got my c64 ultimate delivered today! Very nice product, old and new at the same time. Waiting for my joystick on Monday. The games are so simple. I’m wondering if rewriting them in Python would be fun.

@commodoreofcl Got my C64 Ultimate today. The delivery guy vanished, but I already installed it and everything is fine. It looks amazing and easy to use. The details are incredible... they emulated even the disk drive noise!

Software development has never been about writing code. This was obvious to many before, but now AI has made it crystal clear to everyone. Building software is 99% thinking, 1% writing code, and 1% fighting off-by-1 errors.

@adarshsolanki Thinking about how a political ideology sought power by policing language, shaming and ostriching people who failed to submit, is how you develop the antibodies needed to resist this nonsense. If you don't pay attention to the tactics, you'll lose the next battle.

The new macOS Tahoe update has fixed all my problems. Well not *all* my problems. I still have a mortgage and a receding hairline. But my desktop is smoother and apparently glitch free.

Windows made me laugh today. Ok, it is the end of summer, Belgium used to be a "cold" country, but -273C is an exaggeration :-D But why -273C? They are probably working with Kelvin's degrees, where 0 °K is -273 °C. In some programs, zero can be used as a placeholder when a value is not present, or simply as the default value to initialize a variable. I think today the API they use failed, and the temperature was replaced by 0°K, translated to -273°C.
