Got this patient info sheet from the after hours clinic where my son went for an ear issue (not Covid, thankfully) Apparently they are calling Covid a "common cold" now & normalizing kids being sick like 16 weeks of the year "without cause for concern" 😳

This is a Street Scar. We’ve all seen them: the freshly laid paving or granite setts, the Yorkstones lovingly laid on a slow street, or in front of a newly repaired parade of Victorian shops. Within months, weeks or, sometimes days, a slice or a square of them are pulled up thoughtlessly, cracked, smashed or, worse, thrown needlessly away and replaced by a scar of tarmac which lingers for months or years or forever and which seems to laugh at any local or neighbourhood desire to live in a place with self-worth. “I am authority,” it seems to say. “I am from nowhere. I serve the needs of a nameless, placeless corporation. I don’t care about you, or your neighbourhood or your friends. You don’t matter. Your local aspirations are pointless and petty. Get lost. I don’t care…..”

@GNetworkComms any chance you're going to repair the damage you did the the public realm on Pancras Road 2 years ago? Millions of taxpayer money was spent to regenerate this area, and this is how you treat it?

Okay. I admit it. It was me wot done it: I was the producer who - almost 20 years ago - accidentally picked up Guy Goma - @RealWrongGuy - from the wrong reception area at BBC TV Centre and put him on air. Now I’ve written a book about it, along with Goma. “The Wrong Guy: the inside story of TV’s greatest cock-up” is a never-before-told, insider’s account of how a death-defying escape from civil war-wracked Congo put Guy on the path to a job interview at the @BBC - and 15 minutes of improbable fame that has endured for two decades.
Delighted to say @NickPisa at the @DailyMail has written about the book (and Guy and me) describing it as a “hilarious account…telling in fine detail the buildup and the aftermath of what became television history.” The book is already available for pre-order. Do please take the plunge and buy it. amzn.eu/d/0aodh1Ng

Headmaster: 'Hi there, we're opening a Sixth Form and need a new building for our students.' Architect: 'Great, I see all the other school buildings are beautiful, well-proportioned and made of redbrick. I assume you want something similar?' Roding Valley School: 'No. We were thinking multi-story carpark, but MAKE IT ORANGE!!'

@higgyboson Same with many tv programmes and dramas. If you have any knowledge on the subject presented you’ll be deeply disappointed and frustrated by lack of research as ever, lazy production values.

@higgyboson A friend had an office close to where they were filming an episode of the UK version of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares She watched them film 3 takes of him storming out of the restaurant in frustration before the director was satisfied he'd got it right

I'm watching a TV programme about Antique dealers in South Devon. Lots of lovely scenic vistas of coastlines and countryside etc. And lots of participants filmed driving their cars to various towns across the area. Most of them are actually driving in opposite direction to their claimed destination and others are driving on roads absolutely miles away from either their starting point or town they're travelling to. Many of them are filmed driving along a particular coastal road in Torquay for no apparent reason because they're later filmed walking around an entirely different town and wouldn't have gone anywhere near Torquay to get there. Sometimes having local knowledge absolutely spoils the enjoyment of what should be 30 minutes of relaxed viewing.

A few people in the replies to this are talking about flatshares. My whole point is that if you live in a flatshare with a few strangers in Peckham, and your friend lives an hour away with her parents in Wimbledon, and that guy you kinda fancy lives 90 mins away in another flatshare up in Finchley, you will not have any of the spontaneous encounters that tend to make people's undergraduate years so socially vibrant and exciting. Surely unattached young people would mostly rather live together in the centre of town than dispersed like this?
Ellen Pasternack@pastasnack_e

Lots of people's social & romantic lives could be vastly improved if it was normal for young adults to live in college dorm-style accommodation in city centres until they were ready to set up home properly. Why doesn't this exist? I think there would be a market for it!
