The Italian Navy Trieste is a stunning 38,000-tonne LHD that can act as an aircraft or commando carrier. It can support 30-34 aircraft including F-35B and Merlin. It cost €1.1 billion. I can't help feeling that the Royal Navy would have saved itself so many headaches if it had gone for a ship of this type. Three of these would have cost less than a single QE Class carrier.
