@prototyperspect @dioscuri Tourism is one of the things I think has an unfairly bad reputation: we should want people to mix globally and encounter the other at scale, it is just that we may want to change the practicalities. Reducing travel weakens long-range social bonds.

A striking phenomenon: outside hardcore MAGA or Bay Area transhumanists, almost nobody in the West dreams of the future anymore. Meanwhile friends in SEA and China are excited about what's coming. We can't agree on *why* everything's declining, but we're unanimous that it is.

@theblackvault Doesn't make much sense and even if that was more coherent, Trump is an egoistical manchild totally unfit for office and it wouldn't even matter if there's some strategy behind it...it is what it is.

Part of me thinks the Trump-Zelensky Oval Office blowup was a setup -- a strategic move to make Putin think the U.S. is backing off, Ukraine is losing, and he has the upper hand pushing him toward a peace deal. It's a 180 from the last administration, but maybe that's the plan.
