Celebrated #RecordStoreDay by getting a limited edition LP of one of my favourite ever albums, Zero 7’s When It Falls, from @TruckOxford. I’ve been immersing myself in its Warm Sound all evening Found it in the Modern Classics section; that it is.

@grimgdog It was just written in ZX BASIC! I remember enjoying making all the screens (rooms) by typing long strings of UDGs [user defined graphics]. Each room was just a PRINT “” statement. Yes, there’s a whole generation of us for whom the Spectrum was a MAJOR part of our lives

#severence THANK YOU for a finale closing credits sequence to match the best of title sequences by Maurice Binder or Saul Bass. An artform that has not been surpassed for the last 55 years. Oh and the ep was 5⭐️ too

@CrossCountryUK Trying to get on a train from Birmingham to Oxford: as is becoming usual the vestibules and aisles are crammed and still not enough space for everyone. GET SOME MORE ROLLING STOCK NOW. #BritainsWorstTrainCompany

@BobFromAccounts Very commendable I’m sure but I don’t know about “beauty” - it’s gut-wrenchingly ugly. I don’t know what happened to Citroën, their designs are hideous these days

Seeing a Citroen Ami in central London is as rare as spotting a snow leopard in the wild. This vehicle should be the default for urban driving for those who must drive. SUVs should be taxed out of existence. Note how this beauty occupies only a 1/3 of a standard parking space

OK, @AppleMusic. After several years I have finally given in to your incessant nag screens inviting me to a free trial. But... what's this? I can't listen to Apple Music content on my 2003 2nd Generation iPod? Doesn't Apple care about us early adopters? You're here thanks to us

10 mins into “The Substance”. Is it just me or does this have a definite Stanley Kubrick vibe?

@seatsixtyone The bike space is nothing to shout about. Those are a living nightmare. They are the same on the GWR IETs (and I guess other trains of the same class) – I tried once to “stow” my bike there; never again. Just can’t take my bike on British trains any more 🚳

Tactical error. Walked all the way forwards to get a shot of std class luggage racks, back to 1st, forgot I hadn’t seen the cafe counter. Also got the bike space.

So I’m bound for Llandudno Jn to give a talk, this is my first ride on @AvantiWestCoast’s new Evero (class 805). This interior is *seriously* nice…

@BeautyOfTranspt @_doublearrow These are the 'monograms' for large stations run by Network Rail, is that right? I agree, generally they were well executed and they did look good when used sparingly with the blue background scheme (Reading & Paddington come to mind). But that Clapham C is a mess.

@_doublearrow @richdwelsh Agree. My hot take on this is that the major station symbols have no place on the new standard signage. They were designed to work with blue background-Brunel typeface signage. Though I like them a lot, that’s where they belong. It’s now time to gracefully retire them.

Right, it's finally happened - I have crossed over into middle-England middle-age: I've signed up for a Telegraph subscription. I can hardly believe it. It .. just .. happened. It feels so ... wrong. Mitigating circumstances: It was only so I could read @VictoriaCoren's column

@BBCLondonNews All very shiny, modern and glamorous. Railbar! Superloo! Just one thing: notice how the trains themselves hardly feature in this film at all, save from a few frames of lon-distance shots at the end. Euston was about optimism, modernism and the jet age, not smelly old trains

With lots in the news over the state of Euston Station, we've gone into the archives to look back when the current station was shiny and new.

Lovely photograph encapsulating the work of Jock Kinneir and Margaret Calvert whose typefaces changed the face of Britain (that blue one on the right with the especially charming patina must be a vestige of the Network SouthEast era from 1986–1994) #BromleySouth

Cor, the Slovakian Embassy in London (1970) is great. A small amount of research shows that the RIBA gave it an award in 71 for the best building in the UK by a foreign architect.

@rose_phil @gceccles Yes, Euston was built at the height of the jet age, when air travel was glamorous and train travel was the opposite. That’s why it feels like an airport departure lounge and the trains are hidden out of sight in an underground bunker.

@richdwelsh @gceccles I suspect they were built to absorb large volumes of people travelling. Euston was constructed at a time of declining rail ridership with fewer trains too and thus space to accommodate passengers could be reduced

So, the S of S has stepped in personally to demand action at Euston from NWR and Operators over the state of the concourse and station operation. Without precedence in my memory. There must be some red faces at NWR/OLR/ORR etc. etc. Heads to roll? standard.co.uk/news/transport…
