I see people forcing an identity on anyone to conform with their world view as wrong. Be it straight, gay or trans. What is important is understanding not condemnation, support not denial and flexibility not rigid concepts based on prejudice, fear and ignorance. The gay route was right for you and me, doesn’t mean it’s right for all same sex attracted youth. I don’t support puberty blockers or surgery until the youth has the age and maturity to understand the full consequences of their actions and without a significant amount of work with health professionals looking at all the options. You want a black and white scenario where trans is bad and about disfiguring our young. As always the truth is far more nuanced.

Being gay, being other in earlier times would have see you inside a prison cell or as as a patient in a lunatic asylum. Queer people have existed throughout time, even if there hasn’t been the means or even language to express it. Your failure, as a gay man, to accept the possibility of “other” or “trans” is so, so wrong.

Lozza has lost all sense of proportion and truth. Yaxley-Lennon pleaded guilty to contempt of court. Nothing political about that. He was found to repeatedly tell lies in a film and against a court order continued to screen that film. This isn’t free speech. It’s libel and lies.

I wear my poppy to remember all those who served, and particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice. A gay soldier is not worth more than a straight soldier, and vice versa, that are all soldiers.
