@samwhoo @t3dotgg I have. For about two weeks straight, a hired gun in Belarus (probably from a competitor) targeted a non-trivial ecommerce site I owned with escalating, targeted attacks. And I can tell you neither serverless nor VPS has anything to do with real ddos attacks in the wild

@t3dotgg I wonder how many people have had to defend against a DDoS attack. Most places I’ve worked never had any. Exceptions are Google (wasn’t my problem, we had a team for that) and Nebula (but was mostly carding attacks, not raw throughput).

Let’s play out some scenarios if you get DDOS’d. Bad dev + VPS = you go down fast Bad dev + serverless = high bill, but no downtime Good dev + VPS = you won’t go down as fast Good dev + serverless = “wait I was ddos’d?”

we constantly get nextjs users who are confused at why they cannot access secrets they linked to their backend, in their frontend i suspect they're not even aware their code makes it to their frontend idk if dissolving the backend/frontend split is gonna lead to a good place
