@BarioIsCoding @smspoolnet most people do install win 11 using default settings, which requires a microsoft account if your pc has tpm 2.0 and secureboot enabled it will encrypt your drives automatically using bitlocker and send the keys to the cloud (and linking it to your microsoft account) by default

This entire response was just selective reasoning with the goal of beating a dead horse, and I don't know why you decided to bring Device Encryption up when the original post was general BitLocker vs LUKS and VeraCrypt. BitLocker isn't solely device encryption! I already conceded my E2EE claim was wrong, but by default, on the vast majority of Windows 10 users (which Microsoft doesn't care about in the article you've uploaded), and on a major part of Windows 11 users, the keys are not uploaded to the cloud. Furthermore, if in an organisation, it gets sent there instead of to Microsoft's servers (like one of the responses to your post that you've replied to, I forgot which one exactly). You essentially cherry-picked the parts of my response while all 3 claims of yours are, perhaps strictly not wrong, but misleading: BitLocker is fully reverse-engineered. Linux reads and writes BitLocker volumes natively via libbde, dislocker, and cryptsetup. The crypto is standard AES-XTS. Calling it "proprietary" implies hidden backdoors, which is just not true. About the auto-upload: most users aren't negatively affected by it going to the cloud (if at all), and they're only uploaded when you (1) use Device Encryption, (2) with a Microsoft account, (3) during initial setup. How likely is that? People that would switch to VeraCrypt are likely already covered well enough by BitLocker. And manual BitLocker prompts you with four options. Enterprise deployments don't send the keys to Microsoft servers at all. I know this is anecdotal, but I think this is important to mention: I personally switched from VeraCrypt to BitLocker due to VeraCrypt being heavily inconvenient to use for 99% of use-cases. After all of this, the odds of the government getting your keys is virtually zero (~0.00%). Yes, I only realized I just argued for the same points again after writing this. Please save your time by not responding to them again, but by only responding to the parts you haven't responded to yet.

✅ VeraCrypt (Windows) — Open source. Keys stay local. ✅ LUKS (Linux) — Open source. Keys stay local. ❌ BitLocker (Windows Default) — Proprietary. Keys are auto-uploaded to the cloud. Microsoft can and will surrender them under warrant. Don't let convenience compromise your privacy.
International Cyber Digest@IntCyberDigest

‼️ Microsoft provided the FBI with keys to unlock encrypted user data Microsoft said it receives around 20 requests for BitLocker keys a year and will provide them to law enforcement. In Win 11, uploading your key to their cloud is activated by default for ‘convenience’.

@IceSolst thread: It would be possible if you wanted to waste a lot of time. this is my mind right now: 1. seleniumBASE with CDP mode for anti-bot bypass with google drive 2. separate swap memory into equal files, upload them at same time: efficient increase in upload speed

@Onur_Cay_ @UK_Daniel_Card They would know because of the source IP traffic via the VPN tunnel. The source and destination traffic would be equal or greater, unless compression is applied to the VPN tunnel. Decryption of traffic may not be possible, but the connection statistics provide patterns/heustrics.

I want to talk about how when you use a VPN there's a few things to think about: 1) your ISP will have logs (netflow/dns) of your connecting to the VPN 2) the routers in the path may also log this 3) the ISP of the VPN provider will log these 4) the VPN provider may say no logs (I would not trust that but sure let's assume no logs) 5) the egress traffic will be logged 6) any services tied to your identity whilst on the VPN will have a log of your VPN egress IP with times/dates so VPNs simply move the point of detailed logging away from your ISP into that of another ISP the details in this are important, complex and full of variables. but if you think VPNs = NO TRACES ....... you would be wrong!

Dear Anime Degenerates, Since the birth of my son, with your recommendations, I have watched - Solo Leveling (Season 1 and 2) - Kaiju No. 8 (Season 1) - One Punch Man (Season 1 and 2) - Jujutsu Kaisen (Season 1, 2, and 0) - Chainsaw Man (Season 1) - Mob Psycho 100 (Season 1) - Dan da Dan (Stopped at 4th episode) - My Hero Academia (Stopped at 4th episode) Currently watching Hell's Paradise. I like it a lot. Thank you for your recommendations. I continually review the initial post I made and review subsequent comments for shows which look interesting. I have watched more anime and heard more Japanese than I have in my entire life. I'm watching so much anime I'm imagining pseudo-Japanese dialogue in my sleep. Anyway, thanks for the recommendations. I'll keep working through the list. I love you all - smelly

Reboot your phone to BFU (Before first unlock) it. Face ID is not enabled in BFU. BFU is also significantly harder to exploit
