Hi @duolingo It's been 2838 days since the GDPR came into effect. Maybe it's time for YOUR lesson on data retention.

So now that YouTube is launching even longer unskippable ads on TVs, it would be really cool if there were some open-source alternative client with ad blocking, SponsorBlock, and no dependence on Google Services, right? 🤔😉 alternativeto.net/software/smart…

@smspoolnet This is the main reason I prefer and use Android over IOS they're going to lose market share. There's no distinction or advantage between the 2 if the lock Android down like Apple does.

This isn’t just a developer issue. It’s about the future of every Android phone. If we don’t push back now, every app could need permission just to exist. Say no, to permission slips for apps. keepandroidopen.org

Android was OPEN. Google wants to change that. Starting next year, app installation requires their approval. Don’t let Google tell you what you can and can’t do with your device: keepandroidopen.org

@NuryVittachi I wouldn't suggest using it for security reasons, it's been reported that they started using their visitors as proxies to perform DDoS Attacks against Gyrovague. You can view the full article here: gyrovague.com/2026/02/01/arc…

Three of the most popular internet archives have been blasted off the web -- word says that the FBI did it. Archive.is and its sisters, Archive.today and archive.ph are no longer accessible. The group has been having battles with the FBI and Wikipedia. The latter has started removing all links from their entire encyclopedia -- that's 695,000 links

That’s true for LineageOS, but GrapheneOS has a different goal. It’s designed around security hardening, so it intentionally doesn’t support root or deep system modification because those weaken Android’s security model. LineageOS focuses more on flexibility and customization, while GrapheneOS focuses on maximizing security. They’re built for different use cases.

@smspoolnet @GrapheneOS Also LineageOS gives you the freedom to modify. You can root if you want and have full control over what apps can (and can't) access root. Anyone can make add-ons that enhance and modify the OS. And many do.

I forgot to mention something If you have a Google Pixel, consider flashing @GrapheneOS, a hardened, privacy-first FOSS Android OS with no Google trackers, better security, and full app freedom. Motorola's 2027 flagship phones should support it too.

Those phones aren’t supported by Google anymore, which is why GrapheneOS doesn’t support them. GrapheneOS relies on the security updates provided by Google, so once a Pixel device reaches end-of-life it no longer meets their security requirements. If privacy and security are your priority, you’re better off using GrapheneOS on a Pixel 6 or newer device. If I had an older Pixel that no longer receives updates from Google, I’d probably use LineageOS too. At that point the device is already out of official support, so a community ROM is likely the best way to keep it usable.

@smspoolnet @GrapheneOS Graphene only supports Pixel 6 and newer. That omits millions of 5G Pixels like 4a 5G, 5, and 5a. As well as OG Pixel, 2, 3, and 4. LineageOS aims to support as many devices as possible. Currently over 100 devices are actively supported.

@smspoolnet @GrapheneOS Don't recommend such drastic measures to people without mentioning the limitations. GrapheneOS lacks Google Play and all the necessities that come along with it, such as banking applications.
