Jeffrey Sachs spoke to an audience in Dublin today. As the Govnt fails to call out the brutal, illegal wars of the US+Israel, he reminded us of JFK's speech to the Dáil in 1963. 'From Cork to Congo, Galway to the Gaza strip', Ireland must be the voice of the weak at the UN.

No one knows why Thurles Town Council or @TipperaryCoCo put these concrete flower pots on the footpath, forcing pedestrians onto the road into the face of oncoming traffic. It's a mystery like many Irish urban design decisions.

Every Irish person needs to be properly informed about what removal of the Triple lock means- whether you are for or against it. Please listen to Senator Clonan. He’s a security analyst and former Irish Army Captain.

@paulmurphy68 In the 80s, I took the bus home from school along the Springfield road. V close to springmartin. We had to duck every day as the bus was stoned turning into the west circular. Why? Because we were in our Catholic girl school uniform. Bricks through the window every day

@niamh_journo Sorry to bring it down to this. But as an inner city Belfast taig, it could be because we were far too poor to have trays never mind bakes. On another note my mother made the most amazing cream horns

There's a big discussion going on Norn Iron TikTok currently about how Protestants (esp from rural areas) make the best traybakes and it's turned into something you'd see an academic writing essays about. The southerners are getting involved & invested. It's truly outstanding

@0x445352 Hmm. Subcontract out access to Oireachtas! High turnover of staff in private catering companies. Susceptible to infiltration by foreign actors. Or provide steady, attractive employment for fully vetted people

To all the geniuses who point out that the number I quote is the higher end of the payscale : idc . The State should not be offering pensionable "careers" in Kitchen Portering . The public sector should contract out catering to a private catering company for a limited time, and should pay the market rate. KP is not a career , it's a job for young people or people looking to build a career in the food business .

49,917 euros per year plus 25 days annual leave, free college fees, free access to a gym and subsidised meals, and a public sector pension. And of course union protection meaning you can never be fired. To wash pots. I'm not being snobby here (I did this exactly job back in the day) , but is it any wonder public spending has doubled in the last 10 years when they are paying themselves like this?

@CareChampions2 Some may think a hoist is unreasonable. But even wheelchair accessible hotels often aren't. Pay 200+ a night to have to ask for permission to use the back door? No access to the terrace. Stuck in room as lift is out of order. Restaurant on level 3. Accessible toilet in basement.

Shane Rothwell, from Blanchardstown, Co Dublin, contacted several hotels across Ireland in an attempt to book a one‑night break. Not one could provide a ceiling hoist, which he needs to transfer safely from his wheelchair to a bed. Mr Rothwell, who has cerebral palsy, told the Irish Independent: “I was surprised. I knew it was bad but I didn’t think it was this bad. A €200 stay becomes €1,000 when I have to hire a hoist and pay two support workers.” The disability activist said the process was “mentally challenging”, adding: “I felt there’s no place for people living with disabilities in this world. Why do we have to go an extra mile when trying to book a hotel? “I need to book a hoist and if I’m using a manual hoist, I need two support workers, which I have to pay for.” After compiling a list of hotels unable to provide hoists, he proceeded to contact several taxi companies and, across different dates, couldn’t secure a wheelchair‑accessible taxi. Ireland is “behind” in “terms of development”, Mr Rothwell said. “I want to start seeing changes and the Government to be more invested in accessibility,” he added. As things stand, we’re not treated equally If disability access and inclusion were prioritised, he said, disabled people would feel “needed and included in society”. Equality ‘on paper’ means little without real access #DisabilityRights #Equality independent.ie/irish-news/whe…
