@blaiklockBP When all the non British people have had all their money stopped, foreign aid scrapped and net zero condemned to history. Then if we still need to scrap the triple lock, by all means.

If you are a poor pensioner and haven’t paid enough NI contributions and haven’t any savings, you get Pension Credit ( like Universal credit but for people over 67) and housing benefit. It means whether you have paid full NI contributions or not, becomes irrelevant.

@_DW24 @that_stocks_guy More like being made redundant 😭. Not much job security unfortunately. Another reason I'm saving as I am. Never know if I'm next on redundancy list and if that was the case I'd be back to re skilling / low salary

@AlphaAligator @that_stocks_guy Unless the T&Cs of your pension specifically say you can take money out at 55, the age has been raised to 57......

@miriam_cates Means testing just rewards the feckless/work shy. Id rather everyone get a state pension than reward feckless. Why moan when you are entitled to same pension allowance when you reach pension age?

Opponents of non-means tested state pension claim that those who paid tax during their working lives are entitled to this state handout. But by that logic, wealthy working age taxpayers should be allowed to claim Universal Credit. The welfare state is based on high earners paying a lot of tax while not being entitled to benefits. Why should this only apply to under the 67s?

“Reform’s commitment to keep the triple lock is the final nail in the coffin for the hope of pension reform from the Right. Britain’s young people are now condemned to pay through the nose for the retirement of the wealthiest generation in history.” ✍️👇 conservativehome.com/2026/04/08/mir…

@iAmJoshHunt A society that depends on ever increasing populations is a pyramid scheme... We need a society that can support falling birth rates without mass immigration. Population can't increase forever more...

By 2042 there will be roughly 2 workers for every pensioner in this country. Those 2 workers also have to fund the NHS, schools, police, defence, infrastructure, and their own lives. There is no tax rate, no policy, no political party that makes those numbers work without something giving. The argument isn’t about left vs right anymore. It’s about maths. I’m not attacking pensioners here. They should feel as aggrieved as anyone at how badly this country has been failed by the political class.

@RobertN51219021 @robprogressive Which is fine. Just not spending excessively like we do in UK... For example why punish people taxing them getting private healthcare insurance to take burden off state health service. It's deluded

If you earn £100 & pay £30 in income tax, you’re left with £70 You then spend that £70 on fuel & pay roughly 59% in fuel duty & VAT (£41.30 of the £70) Which means the government has taken about £71.30 in tax from your hard-earned £100 No wonder people are finding it harder & harder to afford life in the U.K.

@RobertN51219021 @robprogressive Government hasn't released figures i.e they don't want you to know... There isn’t a published statistic that tells you how many people with “mild depression” get the higher rate of PIP—because PIP isn’t awarded based on diagnosis or severity labels like “mild/moderate/severe.”

@RobertN51219021 @robprogressive Whether they are illegal or not (technical level) depends on what the government of the day classifies them as and changes law to... Reform in 2029 would change it accordingly as I feel it should be i.e come over the channel on a dingy then be treated as a criminal...
