Up until the comic book era, cowboys were derided by general society. It was seen as a job of ne'er-do-wells and former slaves (yes, Black people were overrepresented among cowboys).
But that changed when cowboys entered American national mythology.

@Localist132215 @RacePopeIII Yeah I agree with that. For what it’s worth I think English should be codified as the national language of America, I just took issue with the idea of totally rewriting our legal and civic language when Latin is like, *the* foundation of it all across the West.

@BrianMerris @RacePopeIII It’s hardly the only source, but it is the original, & as the original has not just a right but a need to conform the rest in large part. You can’t promote spanish or German as an alternative American language just cuz both are European, and likewise the same notion applies.

@Localist132215 @RacePopeIII Not a bad point tbh. Like my background is Italian and German and yet I feel I’d be much more comfortable and “at home” living in Britain than in Italy or Germany so I suppose the “Saxonization” kind of worked lol

The mindset behind the migration of the 19th century and early 20th, was to saxonize other Europeans, and then this was connected further to Frontier Thesis where it took on an indigenization element. You start with the Anglo-Saxon and then move outward
