@nicholasdeorio Extremely optimistic. It'll be 2032 at the earliest.

@Critical_Scribe This is the issue. Assuming this game comes out next year, it'll be at least 2032 before Kratos' next game. It's probably not financially feasible, but these studios really need to have two games in development at all times given how long it takes to make a game.

I feel like this needs to be spelled out so a toddler can understand. The idea behind a Faye game can work. The context in which it’s being released is what is the underlying problem here. I’m not talking about “blah teh womenz r bad” I’m talking in terms of production structure. God of War 2018 had 4 years to get to Ragnarok, which finished the Norse Story (it should have been a trilogy but that’s another thing for another time.) Now fans have had to wait 5 years after that for… more stuff related to the Norse Saga through a spin off? It feels stagnant, like we should be moving on already, but now we know they spend a bunch of time and money to keep the story spiraling in place. The time to release a Faye game would be 1-2 years after Ragnarok, not when everyone has waited long enough to want to see Kratos again. Remember this game is not coming out this year, it’s coming out next year. That’s FIVE YEARS for a spin off and not even a mainline game. This is a horrible content pipeline, especially since we have no telling when the next Kratos game is coming. Unless the studio does some monumental 1-2 punch of releasing this game and then immediately releasing the next Kratos game, the longer it takes the Kratos game to come out people are going to wonder how much faster it could have been if they just focused their efforts and not made a spin off? See where the issue is? But please call me sexist, you’ll feel correct about it I’m sure.

Jeez, it's almost like Kratos made it clear she was an absolute monster in combat and the only way to miss it all was to not be a real fan of the games and instead be a sexist pig

@shinobi602 The issue isn't this game. I have gripes about the dialogue and jello cube, but the idea of playing as Faye is interesting. The issue is it takes 5 plus years to develop these games, so it'll be 2032 or 33 before we get the next game with Kratos.

God of War: Laufey is not a departure but an "expansion" of the franchise, more Kratos in the future, says Head of Creative Cory Barlog: ▪️God of War Laufey "still part of the larger tapestry of what we truly, really want to explore, all of these different characters in there", he says. ▪️[...]"there's always going to be Kratos games" - Sony will "always tell stories about Kratos" ▪️Laufey gives "us some place" to make fans "surprised and see how things connect"[...]"So for us, it's not a departure, it's more of an expansion" ▪️Kratos "drives the franchise forward, and we want to follow him. But there are so many interesting characters that we created along the way" ➡️ ign.com/articles/godof… #GodofWar #GodofWarLaufey #PS5

I don’t see nearly enough people bothered by the Gelatinous Cube (a creature created for D&D and is found nowhere in Norse or Greek mythology) named Frank (a name that came about in the 8th century AD1) being in Laufey. It’s completely out of place in a God of War game.

@TheCardboardDu1 @xShephardx If it was just a Jello cube, I'd agree. But you add the Jello cube to the out of place modern dialogue and the cutesy creature, and that's a lot of red flags. All on top of a culture war that's exhausting and stupid.

@ChrisTheAlt @xShephardx No, man. I think you’re missing the point here. It’s something they’re capable of, not the ONLY thing they would do. Also, we don’t know the backstory here - I’m sure the game will explain it. Doesn’t seem like something worth worrying about right now.

@TheCardboardDu1 @xShephardx In a world filled with gods from everywhere, where they could draw on every mythology that's ever been, they went with a talking Jello cube. Not a great plan.

@ChrisTheAlt @xShephardx “Out of place and immersion breaking” when the setting of the game is literally a world where gods from every different mythology are present. A random talking cube seems COMPLETELY in place for something like that lol

@A2ZJIRWINKO It's frustrating as I was looking forward to this game. It's a cool concept to play as Faye and learn more about her. But the Jello cube companion (wtf?), the cringe modern dialogue, and the exhausting culture war are all bad. Might pass on this one barring stellar reviews.

Look, I know a lot of the conversation around God Of War Laufey is going to be yet another culture war battle that just annoys the shit out of me. But for 20 minutes uninterrupted, it was the most underwhelming 20 minutes of the entire series lifespan.

@LegionzGaming What's depressing is the dialogue is terrible. Why did they write it to sound like Forespoken? It doesn't fit with the rest of the GoW games. I'll play it regardless because I like the world, but I'll set it to a language other than English to avoid the cringe.

I hate woke shit in video games, but The new God of War is not Woke at all lol. These people are just seeking attention I feel like, it genuinely looks really good and I wanted more lore about her and the Giants. Seeing so many people call it woke just make me feel like these people have lost the plot. They see a woman or a black person and they just immediately yell WOKE even when the term doesn't apply to it at all lol. Dragon Age Vielguard was WOKE AF, this new God of War is not that at all lol.

@Nerdrotics @drkstar76 It's also morning Japan time. Enjoy being up until 3 am and sleeping until 11 am the next few weeks. It's a lot harder to adjust your body's time clock going from Japan to the US than it is going there.

@nuhre_ The dialogue was not great. They sounded like modern people from LA not ancient gods. I have no idea why they'd decide to write the script like that.

I already know people are gonna have a million opinions about the new God of War: Laufey. “It’s called GOD of War, not GODDESS of War!” and all the usual barking at air for engagement. But I’m genuinely shocked by how different this game feels from the older ones, and I mean that in the best way possible. Faye feels agile where Kratos always felt heavy and brutal. I love the mix of magic and melee combat. It genuinely feels like what playing an Arcane Warrior in Dragon Age looked like in my head as a kid. I also love how much more colorful the world is. Kratos’ games were muted and cold to reflect his grief and sorrow, while this one feels vibrant, mystical, and alive. And the merging of new pantheons into the mix? Oh, I’m SAT. The designs for the rakshasa and Sekhmet were sick as hell, and I genuinely can’t wait to see more. Buddhist and Egyptian mythology go unbelievably hard.

Why are people defending high prices? Lmao I don't understand this. I know this guy is just joking but I've seen so many people defend $70 games that have less the 20 hours, all you're gonna do is make it so games with more playtime, will be even more expensive...

@yah2xs It's not that you can't play the game. It's that you can't finish it. I've started RDR2 multiple times. I'll get a ways in then be unable to play for a month because of work. When I go back to it, I've forgotten a bunch of stuff. Give me a game I can finish in two weekends.

@Vito_Space @WajahatAli Unfortunately, they can't do much at this point. Carrie Fisher is gone, and Mark Hamill and especially Harrison Ford are getting too old to do much. Maybe they could have Mara Jade show up with Luke's kid and say she was hiding somewhere?

The reason why DISNEY screwed up Star Wars and Marvel isn't due to this nonsense anti "woke" bullshit promoted by bad faith right-wing grifters. If that were the case, ANDOR and Black Panther would've flopped. DISNEY, like most soulless, greedy corporations, decided to take its audience for granted, pump out inferior projects to inflate Disney+, invest in quantity over quality, and arrogantly assumed people would simply line up for diminishing returns. Like nearly every establishment in America, it has lost the public's faith. The majority, especially the youth, have moved on. Good. I hope this shakes it all up and we get back to some renegade, bold filmmaking and ideas as we had in the 70s.
