Mitchell Hall and Makerere University face far more pressing issues affecting students than concerns about homosexuality. I don’t know who is orchestrating this campaign or why they’re so fixated on other people’s sexualities, but this must stop immediately. Let me be clear: LGBTQ+ students exist at this university just as heterosexual students do. They are part of the University and the hostel community, they are not going anywhere, and their presence harms no one. As a gay man and LGBTIQ rights advocate, I will continue demanding justice for the students who were victimized during this ordeal.
