I was privileged to meet with Rear Adm Fontarensky and to receive an operational update on the important work of EUNAVFOR on Op IRINI. It was great to meet the @defenceforces personnel deployed at the Operation HQ and to hear the positive contribution they are delivering.

The non-combatant role for women in the Defence Forces was lifted in 1992 largely in response to pressure from within from serving members who wanted more meaningful roles.
