@SouthwestAir sucks SO HARD now. But they know that and they’re doing it on purpose. Everything about my flight experience today has been 🤨. Never seen a company destroy its own reputation this much this fast. Cool. Cool. 🗑️

@vickyweberbooks The amount of seven chapter book starts living in a graveyard on my computer because “who needs an outline?” 😑⚰️☠️ So glad I stopped doing that. 😅

@TM_Brown The AI writing debate is currently a disagreement between those who like to performatively bootlick tech bros in public and those who like to performatively clutch their pearls in public. Nuance is dead. Long live the Twitterverse.

I think the AI writing debate is actually a disagreement between those impressed by power and those highly skeptical of it.

@BeckyLTuch Turns out, the posted image isn’t entirely accurate. The debate continues to be, what constitutes “written.” You are right, though. We aren’t talking about this nearly enough, and nobody is digging into the nuances.

Wow, one aspect of the AI debate not nearly discussed enough is the question of copyright. Can an author actually copyright a book partly written by AI?...Turns out NO, they cannot.

@justcastellon This. It’s all so performative right now, just to get amens from people who will matter exactly zero to your actual work. JUST. WRITE. Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and just put words on paper.

It’s sad to see authors assume that their peers are using AI in their writing simply because they choose to be open-minded with the new tools. Unless you’re writing with pen and paper or a typewriter, or manually designing your book cover without digital tools, can you truly claim your work is 100% human-made?   Think about it: Microsoft Word or Google Docs come with grammar and spell checkers. Canva incorporates AI in some of its design features to make the process faster and more user-friendly. Photoshop? Same story. At the end of the day, it’s the readers who decide what to consume, and honestly, I don’t think they care how a story was created as long as it entertains them and resonates on a deeper level.   So, write the way you always have. Open your laptop, grab your notes, and turn your ideas into words. When you’re done, if you can afford an editor and artist to refine your work, that’s fantastic. But if you can’t, and you rely on Word’s grammar checker or Grammarly to polish your writing, that’s perfectly fine. You wrote those words; they’re yours. You didn’t steal them.   What’s not okay is making assumptions about your fellow writers, suggesting that most, or even some, are using AI. Let’s focus on creating and supporting one another, rather than casting doubt or actively participating in witch-hunting.

Literally the exact argument I’ve been trying to make all weekend. 🙌🏽
ACC2- Adam Caisse@TiltAtGiants

What is interesting that those of us who are creative won't say about AI, is that nobody could tell if the higher quality things are AI or not, or at least not definitively. The audience, if they are not told something is AI, basically just cares if they enjoyed it. Sure, if they absolutely love it they may become true fanatics and then want to know who the author is etc, but that just isn't how most people are. Many will also delude themselves if they do like something. For example, Sabrina Carpenter. Her songs are written by committee, this is well known. Yet, a lot of the audience tries to piece together some real life narrative of what inspired her or what must be going on in her interior life etc. Point is, creative people want to believe what they create is so much more and special to the audience than what it usually is, and we have to acknowledge that most people, even our readers, likely will never care like we do. Which is ok. How many people actually watch all the movie credits? Does anyone ask for the name of the person who designed the tires of their car, that literally keeps them on the road and prevents them from dying? No. Just write what you feel compelled to, find your audience if you are able and fortunate enough to stumble upon them, and don't focus on all this AI stuff. Do your thing, stop worrying about what everyone else is doing.

I’m just gonna say it: The #WritingCommmunity witch hunt against A.I. is 👏🏽also 👏🏽part 👏🏽of 👏🏽the 👏🏽problem.👏🏽 There is no reliable way to determine A.I. Everything that’s a so-called “tell” is also a thing human people do. Stop accusing everyone and everything of A.I.

Over in the blue place, we shared pie charts for #RevPit submissions so far, and there is wayyyy more adult than YA and MG. If you’re #amquerying YA or MG, please consider submitting, and if your manuscript matches my MSWL, I would love to see it. #writingcommunity 💜💎

@BeckyLTuch I have given up the em dash. I have stopped phrasing things in threes. I have even tamed my penchant for hyperbole. But you can’t have my three words sentence fragments. Not today, Satan. Not tomorrow either. Not ever, sister. They are mine. Dammit I phrased that as a three.

AI writing has so many tells. Once you see it, it's fairly easy to identify (and exhausting to see everywhere). If you don't know how to spot it, please read: litmagnews.substack.com/p/q-what-is-ai…

I had an agent request my partial, then politely pass with a letter that pointed out a thing that I ALSO HATE about my first 50 pages and immediately sent me back into rewrites because I WAS RIGHT. Take that, brain! #amquerying #WritingCommunity

I’m as “boo AI” as the next guy, but the #WriterCommunity convo around it is TIRESOME. If you use it, it is what it is. There’s very little market for the output, so the problem solves itself. Wading through a sea of torches and pitchforks every day on here is ridiculous.
