@goodlookingeek Agree. Also, credit where it’s due, 90% of the shots look incredible. But in the other 10%, despite planning and execution being top-tier, you can feel that they’re from the early 2000s. Still incredible for the time.

One of my favorite details in Dead Man’s Chest is when Jack and Bootstrap talk in the hold of the Pearl and the lighting over Jack is warm, lantern-lit, and the lighting over Bill is cool and looks like it’s coming through water. Planning your films? It matters.

@shrimpothy @oldmanbayin Boards “must” be done like this because they get shipped off to vendor studios and those vendors are (often) told to match them exactly. It’s basically pre-animating and doesn’t offer any freedom :/

@oldmanbayin Western animator here. Even in school we asked "isnt this just animating instead of boarding?" And we are told this is the standard expectation. Minutes of boards this quality due in days sometimes is exhausting
