Political disagreements can actually be fun, if you are socially skillful. Caroline Mehl and I describe what we have learned about these skills from creating @openmindusa, in @TIME

@SohrabAhmari I, my 14 year old daughter and my mother-in-law are all reading it (separate copies) and it has made for rich conversations. Wonderful book.

@ahilger1 @LinkedIn Yes, I am just at the section where he appoints his friend to the Ministry of Aircraft Production to flip the bureaucracy on its head and put them on war footing- unpopular but effective. Courageous to go against the machinery. Lots of leadership lessons.

@Ebenchoff @LinkedIn I've found it very applicable for how we need to think about change during disruption (the way he cuts through bureaucracy, communicates throughout, experiments with technology). Let me know what you think!

Reading, like so many things, just seemed a little harder this past year. Still, several books stood out for me. Here's my annual list of favorites. What captured your attention?

I strongly recommend Irshad and her approach to those interested in sincere, honest and effective conversations on these important and emotionally freighted topics; she is a calm voice of reason.

Our role as educators is not to make our students comfortable. Our role is to help them feel safe in their *discomfort.* How do we achieve this on sensitive issues around diversity, equity & inclusion?👇🏽At the end, ask me tough q’s so I can model the skills I teach you!

@Ebenchoff When I was 16, I had a minor car accident turning into a friend’s driveway. I was shaken. His dad laughed and put his arm around me, saying, “Into each life, some rain must fall.” This too shall pass!

I just watched @SongExploder on “Losing My Religion” on Netflix and it is beyond amazing. You’ll learn things and just sit in the bliss. The show is fantastically made tv as well... take 25 minutes and watch it. Also @HrishiHirway is a doll.

@IrshadManji @cvaldary I am just finishing up the course and it has been fantastic; thought provoking and different than anything else out there.

Scorched earth politics is awful for democracy — and for life. If you’re fighting with a buddy, a family member, a co-worker, a neighbor, try these tips that @Yascha_Mounk & I discuss: bit.ly/3kyHcp9. #RBG, great friend of Antonin Scalia, would approve. @JoinPersuasion
