Harassment of a Muslim Employee at Mumbai International Airport An incident of verbal abuse and religious profiling has come to light at Mumbai International Airport, where runway coach Abdullah Khan was allegedly spoken to in an insulting and demeaning manner by a woman identifying herself as a BJP “Minority Leader” in her X (Twitter) bio. The woman reportedly made religiously charged and offensive remarks, saying things like: “You will stand right here… Abdullah Khan, Abdul… the entire country is troubled because of people like you.” Such statements clearly target religious identity and amount to harassment and hate speech. It is important to note that IndiGo and other airlines do not recruit employees based on caste or religion, but strictly on merit, training, and qualifications. Yet, a working professional was publicly humiliated at his workplace for his name and faith. This incident reflects the everyday reality faced by many Indian Muslims, who increasingly encounter discrimination, intimidation, and verbal abuse from their homes to their workplaces and public spaces. Harassment based on religious identity is not only morally wrong but also undermines the constitutional values of equality, dignity, and respect that every citizen is entitled to.
