The Canadian conservative movement has been profoundly damaged by its outsized obsession with classical liberalism.

The Carney Liberals are just three seats shy of a majority, but with four defections to his side and three by-elections on April 13 in mostly safe turf, the PM is poised to seize full control of Parliament — The Economist

I remain an atheist but I see religion in a completely different way than I used to. I’ve realised that most of the population, whatever happens, will be religious. It’s just a question of if that religion is relatively benevolent, like Anglicanism, or vicious, like wokeism.

I’d keep my mouth shut if my dad was responsible for privatizing a Canadian resource
Ben Mulroney@BenMulroney

@Zee0731 Prior to 1991, Petro Canada had a bloated staff of 11,000. That was reduced, after privatization to 5000. Government takes more than twice the amount of people to do the work of the private sector.

Canada is an alcoholic that never admits it has a problem. Is there a 12 step program for TDS or do we just let Mark Carney drive the country into the ground while we walk around clucking with our elbows in the air?

Not-Professor Jiang argues Joseph Stalin is “the greatest man who ever lived.” Based on three claims: That Stalin was an outsider who led a fringe movement to power, outmanoeuvred more impressive rivals, and turned the Soviet Union into a global hegemon that defeated Nazi Germany. Here’s where that breaks down: Yes, Stalin was an outsider - but he didn’t lead the Bolsheviks to power. Lenin did. The October Revolution and consolidation of power were driven by Lenin’s leadership. Stalin didn’t “defeat” Lenin - he rose after Lenin was incapacitated and then consolidated control within an existing system. Yes, the USSR helped defeat Nazi Germany - but at an extraordinary cost. Over 20 million Soviet citizens died. A catastrophic amount of losses, many worsened by Stalin’s own decisions (military purges, early strategic failures, and brutal wartime policies). And no, he didn’t create a “global hegemon.” The Soviet Union became a superpower, but in a divided world alongside the United States - not a dominant global force and one that ultimately collapsed within a few decades. To call Stalin “the greatest man who ever lived” is beyond absurd. By Jiang’s own metrics, both Napoleon and Jesus of Nazareth far surpass Stalin. Each rose from relatively marginal positions, achieved extraordinary influence, and - most importantly - left legacies that endured for centuries or millennia. Napoleon’s institutional and legal reforms still shape modern states, while Jesus’ influence has defined entire civilisations for over two thousand years. Stalin’s power, by contrast, was immense but short-lived - built on coercion and tied to a system that collapsed within decades. With immense human and economic costs setting Russia back in fundamental ways.

"It had been a staunch ally through history, a gallant D-Day partner and attempting to acquire it would undoubtedly make the King of Canada unhappy," Hardman added. According to Hardman's recounting of the conversation, Trump paused at that note and asked the British journalist whether Canada still recognized King Charles as its head of state. "Do they still recognize the King? Or have they stopped that?" Trump said, according to Hardman. Trump's respect for King Charles possibly quashed desire to annex Canada, says royal commentator | CBC News cbc.ca/news/politics/…

Theo Von is 46, unmarried, childless and on antidepressants because a prior drug addiction zapped his ability to regulate his emotions. In no measure of a meaningful life is he more successful or happier than I am.

@magills_ And it makes you lash out because that "burnout" is far more successful than you? He's obviously way happier.

TDS and MAGA have killed right wing politics in Canada. The leftists have used people’s feelings for Donald Trump and what’s happening in America, to move people further left, through fear tactics and Trump-a-phobia. It started during the last Canadian election, where it seems like the Liberal campaign strategy was to draw similarities between Polievre and Trump, leveraging the TDS of Canadians to turn them against the Conservatives. Then the term “Maple MAGA” was introduced - again, by the Liberals - as a way of scaring people away from voting Conservative. The Liberals were aware of how divisive Trump was, and leveraged his comments about the 51st State as a way of turning people to the left. Every single thing Trump said or did, they were able to convince Canadians that Poilievre was on board with. Every single thing Canadians disliked about Trump, the Liberals were able to convince Canadians that Poilievre was the same. Canadians didn’t elect Carney because they were voting for Carney. He was elected because Canadians were voting against Trump. Or against the guy that the Liberals convinced them was Trump. And now Canada is stuck with a PM who’s far, far worse than what they believed Poilievre was. And they’re still so filled with hate and TDS that they’d vote for him again tomorrow.

🚨 Before you vote, you deserve to know what you’re really voting for. This seat decides whether Carney gets his majority. No more checks. No compromise. Full control. Here’s what his company did while he was in charge: ▪️ Brookfield was fined $800K for slave labour in Brazil — upheld while he was Vice Chair ▪️ Tried to evict an Indigenous tribe from the Amazon ▪️ Illegally deforested 9,000 hectares — while branding himself as a climate champion ▪️ CBC confirmed rights violations in 4 countries under his leadership ▪️ Mississauga First Nation is suing Brookfield for $100M right now over dams that devastated their community ▪️ 14 First Nations are suing his government over the Building Canada Act ▪️ He still holds $6.8M in Brookfield stock options ▪️ Brookfield’s own COO confirmed under oath: when Brookfield profits, Carney profits This isn’t about Tatiana Auguste. It’s about what a majority for this PM means. This isn’t lLiberals vs Conservatives. This is what they’re hoping you won’t Google before you vote. Every claim sourced ✅ Every link live ✅ 📌 Read the highlights. Then decide.
Mark Carney@MarkJCarney

Le vote par anticipation a lieu cette fin de semaine à Terrebonne et c'est rapide et facile de voter. Allez voter pour Tatiana Auguste, pour que nous puissions bâtir un Québec fort et un Canada fort — ensemble.

I'm as annoyed as anyone by the legions of senile Boomers who think it's still 1997. But the far worse problem in Canada is that everybody else has given up hope. And that's where the extremists win: They *want* you to think it's too late and that your country is already gone.
