Hosted my 8yo daughter’s birthday sleepover as a single mom. One girl (first sleepover, no heads-up) woke up at 1:30am crying, terrified, begging for her mom. I tried comforting her for a while but she was spiraling, so I called her mom to pick her up. Mom showed up annoyed and later texted that I should’ve “waited it out” till morning , now her daughter’s embarrassed and scared of future sleepovers. I wasn’t told this was her first time away from home, and I didn’t want to force a distressed kid to stay during my child’s party. Was I wrong for sending her home instead of staying up all night playing therapist? Single moms especially what would you have done?

Who else misses the boring, no-drama days of @JoeBiden? No chaos. No circus. No daily embarrassment. Just quiet competence from a president who actually knew how to do the job.

This therapy may be able to reverse alpha-gal syndrome, aka tick induced meat allergy... Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT) uses acupuncture in the ear, a single needle placed for 3-4, weeks to help the immune system "reset." Western medicine isn't really sure how it works but there's some evidence that it's quite effective. (PMID 35003502) 126 patients treated, 121 (96%) reported symptom remission. More studies are needed, but this is compelling data. Red meat (beef, lamb, venison) and dairy + collagen are incredibly nutrient-rich foods that are vital for optimal health. Not being able to eat these is a big deal. I hope this therapy is studied more widely and this information gets to those who are suffering with alpha-gal. Please share if you know someone who has this issue.

@billybinion Dude, she had a massively cushy job making far more than the average person. She should be able to retire if she played her cards even slightly right. No one has sympathy for this person when most people are looking forward to never being able to afford to retire.

I didn’t like USAID. But watching people gleefully mock a woman for having to start over at ~60 is bleak. You can disagree with someone’s politics without losing basic empathy. The internet has broken a lot of brains.

Things like this and recent events in my own kids' lives have me pondering much lately. Is the mother deliberately covering for her violent son or is she genuinely oblivious to his nature? The biggest douchebag kids I know have the absolute sweetest parents and the kids act completely differently around adults than peers. If you informed these parents that their kids are a menace, they would be authentically shocked, so how does this phenomenon come to be? Is it that "nice" parents ignore red flags in their own kids? Are these kids a product of gentle parenting gone wrong? Would you believe it if someone told you your kid was a bully? Obviously this kid was caught on camera, but many more instances are not. How do we, as parents, ensure that we are not raising people who are unkind, malicious, and in this kid's case, violent? Clearly his "Christian" upbringing didn't work, and I'm sure the school system can be partially to blame. And before everyone jumps in my replies with the fact that this is an inner city black kid, I know and understand that circumstances are different, but this type of behavior, though to a lesser extent, is seen in every town across America. I live in a very rural area and deal with douchebag kids regularly. We should not just be chalking this up to "kids will be kids." Kids can be taught respect and empathy. They can be taught that unsavory behavior is punished. We, as parents, can do better.

The mother of a teen who brutally attacked a girl on video is now calling HER SON the "victim" She is quoted by the New York Post as saying her son is a "humble Christian," a "quiet boy," and that the girl he sent to the hospital was "being a bully to him, that’s it" She said her son “doesn’t provoke nobody,” and that the attack caught on video was "retaliation because she pushed him first" The lack of accountability is STAGGERING

It's hard to find a more parasitic people than Sub-Saharans. They're utterly incapable of building any kind of functional society, so their only hope of ever living in one is to flock to one that others built. Once there, they will multiply rapidly, eventually overtaking the natives. And because they have no cultural foundation that supports nation-building, or any understanding of how to maintain one, wherever they go in large numbers will eventually be destroyed by them. Then, once that place is destroyed, they will go looking for another place to live and do exactly the same thing there. These people are civilisation-destroyers. Everywhere they go, they bring the conditions they flee.

963 days of Carnivore diet for me. See this bowl here? French scrambled eggs. Mind. Blown. They taste INCREDIBLE compared the last 900 or so scrambled egg sides I have eaten. After a few bites my body was like "Whoa. Hold up! This is WAY too rich to be normal food... stop eating. We are full already! Time out! Is this even legal?". French scrambled eggs cook at 150°F with butter. The butter at low heat emulsifies (traps the water that normally gets cooked out). If you see steam coming off your eggs while cooking, you are doing it wrong. The results take 15-20 minutes depending on how perfect you want them. I have come a long way since the before-fore times of using a can of frankenchemical spray. Recipe: - Crack 6 eggs into a cold pan, not preheated. - Put in 3 tablespoons of cold butter chopped up - Over low, low, low heat keep stirring and scraping for 15 minutes regularly taking the pan off the heat. I used an infrared thermometer to keep the temperature around 150 degrees the whole time. - The recipe I used called for an extra tablespoon of butter at the end. I will try it next time but I was extremely happy with the initial 3

Splitting a dinner bill used to be an exercise in basic rounding. Now it's a forensic accounting investigation. I went out for tacos with three friends last night. When the check came, Dave pulled out his phone and opened the calculator app. He spent ten minutes cross-referencing the receipt with the menu prices. He Venmo requested me for $24.83. He specifically noted in the comments that I had two extra chips from the communal salsa bowl. Who monitors communal chip intake? The worst part is he used the privacy settings to make the transaction public. Now my entire network knows I owe Dave exactly $24.83 for tacos and excess salsa. I paid him $25.00 and told him to keep the change. He sent me $0.17 back immediately. He said he didn't want to mess up his monthly budget tracking spreadsheet. I'm never eating with Dave again.

This post is an excellent litmus test for understanding of just war theory. Despite the fact that I can see how effective this would be, I must oppose it because the damage it would do to my enemy (who bashes in my mailbox) would far outweigh the good of saving my mailbox. Its disproportionality is opposed by our duty in charity (and even justice) to watch out even for the good of our enemies. (Yes, by the way, I have had my mailbox bashed in by random vandals.)

Things that don’t cause obesity: Eating white sugar. Drinking soda with HFCS. Having bowls of rice every day. Not doing cardio. Not lifting weights. Overeating. Poor sleep. Processed food. Drinking milk. Eating fruit. Ice cream. Breakfast. Sitting. Eating at night. White bread. Orange juice. Dessert. Coffee. Not counting calories. Most things they tell you.

I didn't raise them badly. In fact I made ALL of their baby food from scratch with organic ingredients only. As soon as I sent my oldest to daycare and he got nuggets, French toast sticks and cereal he never ate my homemade food again. My second kid just learned from my first, and since they're 6 years apart we were already deep into this problem when she was born.

The 'serve what you eat or they wait 12 hours' approach assumes every kid is neurotypical. Some kids will genuinely starve before eating something that triggers a sensory aversion. Fed is best. Even if it's chicken nuggets.
Dr. Camilo Ortiz 👨🏼‍🎓@DrCamiloOrtiz

No parent needs to have "child foods" like sugary cereals or processed chicken nuggets at home to "get their child to eat." For example, you serve them whatever you are eating for dinner. If they don't eat it, that's perfectly fine. Breakfast will be served in 12 hours.

You say kids as plural, yes? How on earth did you raise multiple kids so badly that this is an issue? I can see maybe one kid being a goofball when it comes to trying new things, but more than one points to a parenting problem. All 4 of mine don't have the same pallette but they all try new things and will eat what's served outside of a few outlier side dishes. And I always have snacks available and it's never an issue.

My kids wouldn't starve. They would sneak food. Any food. They would sneak 10 granola bars while I slept before they would eat a single bite of unapproved food. So, people tell me don't buy granola bars. Ok... it's the same for literally any food they like. They would sneak crackers, cereal, pretzels, popcorn, a handful of chocolate chips, a slice of bread... anything but the homemade food we serve. I've tried for a decade to expand their palette. I just end up ruining my own day and theirs, which I have done countless times over that decade. I would have to rid my home of every single thing they enjoy eating to attempt to get them to eat homemade food, and then at that point they would probably starve themselves.

I have 4 kids that we take on cruises and your situation would infuriate me. We travel a lot for sports so my kids have been taught how to act in hotels, cruises, etc. and while none of them are special needs, it's completely obnoxious that the parents didn't book on the lowest deck knowing this could potentially happen.

Last month, my husband and I went on a one week cruise, which we do several times a year This particular cruise was extremely different We rarely go during spring break, but this was a completely booked cruise and by mid midday on day one we knew it was gonna be a little less peaceful than usual The people in the room above us were quite noisy, we figured by day two they would be calmed down a little, it sounded like they had children we thought maybe they were just really excited By day four, we had very little sleep, this kid was running up and down and jumping above us all day all night, when we complained, the crew would tell us the parents are trying to control their child. We couldn’t figure out why in the world this was continuing on throughout the entire seven day cruise Turns out it was a special needs child and they literally couldn’t control him/her I’m conflicted about this because I understand the parents and the special-needs child need a vacation, but they literally ruined ours in the process I have audio of the noise. It wasn’t just a little pitter patter, it sounded like the whole floor was going to come undone like this kid was running 25 marathons for 7 days straight. I feel bad for parents with children with special needs so I hate complaining here, but surely there’s a better way for parents to deal with special needs children on vacation? Maybe not the 14th floor on a cruise ship if you have a robustly energetic child?

@kipkoecheruiyot Was this after you induced her on/before her due date instead of letting her go into labor naturally? Crazy how many CS are needed due to artificial labor caused by induction. Stop augmenting birth and you'll see better outcomes.

Some time ago, I begged someone to consent to a cesarean section. There was a clear fetal indication for CS. She declined. She ultimately gave birth normally, but the baby didn’t score well. She even celebrated that she had been coerced into a CS but ultimately gave birth normally, that is what she told fellow mothers in labour. A year later, I met her, the child hasn’t even sat without support. I felt sad. I couldn’t even talk with her. Some things drain you emotionally.

I mean this as a genuine question. Is it not your job as a parent to give your kid challenges they need to overcome as a part of them getting stronger as people? Why does this current generation of parents think withdrawing from society and teaching their kids to be scared of their peers will be good, overall?
