@kirkneverdied Except the story in Mario Galaxy is good. It tells a good story about family. It isn’t super deep but it doesn’t need to be. The ironic thing is those looking for only story and/or thematic elements completely missed both of them.

Two things can be true at once: (1) Many critics are overly critical of the film, (2) the movie has basic story problems.
There's a lot of room between "Turn your brain off"
and "a profound commentary on the human condition."
Wanting Mario to have a good story isn't an indictor or jaded, cynical critic.

Shigeru Miyamoto explained how Fox McCloud ended up in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie:
“When I got the proposal from Chris about including Star Fox, in general, from Nintendo’s perspective, we tend to avoid mixing IPs, except for the Pikmin cameo.
With that said, though, as the creator of Star Fox and this movie taking place in space, I felt that I wanted to see that. I wanted to see what it would be like, but I also felt that there may be significant resistance internally about that idea, so after I got this proposal, I contacted the necessary parties involved and started my lobbying activity here at Nintendo.
However, I was surprised to find that a lot of people saw a lot of potential with it and were really excited to see what would come out of this.”

Yup everyone’s right about this movie, while it is gorgeous and fun, it’s horrendously paced, all go and no show, a bare bones story with no room for character moments or even any arcs
It’s just stuff happening without any rhyme or reason, again it’s fun but nothing more

Let me be clear, this isn't just for Mario, but for EVERY movie (animated or live action) that's releasing later in the year.
Imagine if your most anticipated film gets screwed and fucked over by terrible critic reviews if it's not out to the public? Or awful films be praised?
