At risk of losing. You haven't been paying attention. All the realignment for ESPN money has already killed about half of the rivalries. We aren't at risk of losing them they are already lost. Since they are gone and college football is completely fubar at this point may as well do the playoff right. Copy FCS put in all the conference champs and at least make the playoff about the student athletes while profiting off it.

In this format, Michigan and Ohio State will just be able to rest their starters in The Game knowing they will both already have clinched spots in a 24-team playoff. This would be the complete and utter ruining of a once sacred regular season.

Stupidest post ever. You think the playoff and championship are so important. Most of the time 90% of the fans couldn't tell you who won it a month after it's played. A college national championship is the most meaningless game of the year. Bragging rights for your trophy case that's it. Now bragging rights for winning your biggest rivalry every Michigan and OSU fan gonna be eating that up. Realignment and all the bullshit leading up to this has already destroyed most of the games fans really care about anyway.
