As a parent, nothing matters more to me than my children's success and happiness. It's only natural for parents to want to be involved and aware of what's happening in their children's lives. We all want our children to be safe and secure at school, and it's our responsibility to ensure that other children are safe too. If the fear and misinformation deliberately sown by the UCP are causing parents to worry, it's time for us to come together and address these concerns honestly rather than give in to the fear and division. We owe it to our kids to create a safe and inclusive environment at school and at home. For some kids, their lives depend on it. In a changing world, it is becoming harder and harder to make ends meet, making it more difficult to create the opportunities our kids need to succeed. We cannot let the UCP continue dismantling the safe, nurturing, and inclusive environments that provide them with opportunity. Once again, Danielle Smith has shown that she would rather destroy than build and divide rather than unite us. She wants to distract us from the UCP’s failures — crumbling classrooms and emergency rooms held together with duct tape, fighting with doctors and nurses, skyrocketing bills and a cost of living crisis — all of which undermine our ability to give our kids the life they deserve. Albertans care about each other and stand with – not against – our most vulnerable. Parents love their children. And all children deserve to be safe.

@Dave_Eby Such an authentic, passionate letter by our premier. Positive change happens because of leadership like this and that of the BC Liberals who embraced SOGI 123. Progress and safety are eroded when leaders are silent in the face of discrimination.

School must be a place where all students, staff and families belong and feel safe, and where respect is shown for each other’s differences. It has been upsetting to see misinformation and disinformation used to attack some of our most vulnerable children and youth. (1/6)

@TeriMooring A growing number of school admin are receiving menacing letters trying to dissuade them from SOGI inclusive education at their schools. This is a clear sign that schools MUST continue to be a safe harbour for all kids and MUST provide a message of acceptance of SOGI differences.

1/n PHO has a new risk assessment on the spread of the current BA. 2 wave. Among other things it says: - The wave is associated with lifting mask mandates - We're likely to see ++ serious illness in children - Reintroducing masking would be an effective + practical intervention

As educators in many places are being silenced on queer issues, we need to celebrate our progress here in BC, especially the amazing Dave Deveau and his new play at Carousel Theatre, Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls (includes a teacher resource guide) carouseltheatre.ca/plays/ladies-g…

@CBCTheHouse @kennedystewart It was great to hear our mayor @kennedystewart say that 60% of new housing is for renters, but the elephant in the room is that “market” rents aren’t actually affordable for even the middle class in Vancouver. Govts need to collaborate to support co-op housing here and across BC

“In this case, speed doesn’t kill — speed saves,” says @kennedystewart, urging quicker construction to help end a housing crisis that has long plagued his city. The mayor weighs in on whether the federal budget can help solve the persistent problem. cbc.ca/1.6413166

@ChrisWalkerCBC We have two suites in a house in Nanaimo. Same thing there. 80-100 inquiries with so many desperate folks, many with sad stories. Governments need to work together to build more non-market housing like co-ops, especially here in BC.

We have a basement suite in our home here in Kelowna that we rent out. It's neat, tidy, and affordable (about 30% below avg). Our tenant is moving out May 1st, so I posted an ad. The response has been overwhelming, and kinda troubling...

Look what’s coming for Family Day! I predict that kids who are able to watch will grow up to be far more accepting of all kinds of differences in society. Yeah Canada! youtu.be/MF_qvuGhfFY

What are some ridiculous things you did as a first year teacher that you would never do now? I’ll go first. I stayed at school on a Friday night until 8 PM grading papers. #teacherlife #teacherprobs

@BogochIsaac In BC it feels like we’re lifting restrictions gradually, which allows ALL of us with COVID fatigue to see the light at the end of the tunnel, while still protecting hospitals and those at risk. The future cost (both $ & time) of COVID long-haulers is too great to run wild yet!

Insight into Denmark lifting all COVID restrictions while cases are still very high (touching on hospitalizations, vaccines, trust, public sentiment, data on long COVID, etc.)👇
Michael Bang Petersen@M_B_Petersen

Today, Denmark lifted *all* restrictions, while cases are soaring. The international reaction: Disbelief. I am leading the largest Danish project on pandemic behavior & I am advising the gov. Here is why Danes are still supportive. And what may be learned from this. 🧵(1/19)
