I support birthright citizenship. I mean actual birthright citizenship. My children -- who were born in this country to American parents, who have ancestors who've fought in every war since the 1700s, who are tied to this land by blood and heritage -- have a birthright. A birthright to live in the country that was built for them, enjoying the safety and security and prosperity that their ancestors intended to pass down to them. That's the only kind of birthright we should be talking about.
On the other hand, the child of an illegal immigrant, whose parents showed up 10 seconds ago to exploit a loophole, who have no ties to this country or even any real affection for it or loyalty to it, has no birthright here. The birthright belongs to my children. Not the illegal immigrant's child. It's completely insane how we've flipped the concept of "birthright" upside down.

The scan showed the unborn girl breaking into a clear smile as soon as her father started speaking. Mr. President I am glad the people of South Carolina have finally got someone’s attention in DC. Lord knows we need it. Our roads are ranked the worst in the nation, and our schools aren’t doing much better. I have always supported @POTUS since the moment he walked down the escalator. I often say the only thing I disagree with President Trump on is that he didn’t run in 2012. It is true I dropped out of the race today because it was the last day to leave the race and get my name off the ballot. My good friend @TuckerCarlson’s endorsement, which was an honor to receive, had nothing to do with it. I did it because we cannot Make America Great Again until Lady Graham is taken out of office. @MarkLynchSC has the resources to make that happen. I am proud to endorse @MarkLynchSC and will do everything in my power to get him elected to the U.S. Senate. Mr. President we here in South Carolina love you, but we don’t trust Lady Graham to help you put America first. On June 9th Vote @MarkLynchSC.

On this day in 1865, Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant.
Lee showed up dressed in his best, looking like a dignified gentleman. Grant was covered in mud after riding all morning.
Before anything was signed, the two men spoke about their shared service in the Mexican War -- a reminder that Confederates and Union soldiers were nonetheless countrymen tied by mystic chords of memory.
Grant did not create terms of surrender to humiliate the South. Grant and Lincoln understood that to unify the nation, you could not imprison half of it. Confederates were allowed to keep their sidearms and personal horses.
When Grant learned that Lee's men were quite literally starving after having not eaten for days, he ordered 25,000 rations sent to them immediately. Lee said this would have "a very happy effect" on his men.
When Lee rode away after signing terms of surrender, Union soldiers cheered. Grant forced them to stop, reminding Union soldiers that Confederates were "now our countrymen" and there would be no cheering over their downfall. (In fact, days later when actual ceremonial surrender occurred, Union Gen. Josh Chamberlain reportedly ordered his men to salute passing Confederates as a sign of respect)
Lee also worked diligently to stop Confederates from waging guerrilla warfare, encouraging them to set their arms aside and return home and in peace. He was a titan in his own right.
If the spirit of 1865 had been driven by the urge to shame and punish, the Union would not have lasted. So many people today misunderstand that and as such, they try to rewrite America history.
