@jasonkredline @BParry19 The contract runs through 6/30/32… any conditions within that contract, such as the GOR, end when the contract expires. The contract stipulates ALL conditions for that term only.

Coach Calhoun wanted to be in a power conference and not a mid major conference. The big 12 is just a hoops league you wanna be in. Surely Cincinnati signaled serious investment. The mid major life is in serious danger across the board. Can USU do it again? #LETSRUN
Matt Norlander@MattNorlander

Breaking news: Utah State coach Jerrod Calhoun has agreed to be the next coach at Cincinnati and will return to his alma mater, sources told @CBSSports. Calhoun, 44, just took USU to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. He'd been Cincy's top target for weeks. cbssports.com/college-basket…

@BParry19 @Oneepstein So the conference ceases to exist after 2032? We may be able to come to an agreement to leave the conference after 2031-2032, But there does not exist a mechanism to do so inside the GOR.

@jasonkredline @BParry19 Not how it works. The GOR is only for the term of the contract… in this case through 2032. That’s it. Nothing is in perpetuity after that UNLESS you sign a NEW GOR, which you would have to for a new TV deal.

@jasonkredline @Oneepstein I don’t see where you are getting this from. Going over the the GOR docs it just states through the “term”

@BParry19 @jasonkredline That’s why I agree with staying in MW… 💵to stay vs pay to leave, with your worst case being that you’ll end up in that league anyway in 5 years if things don’t pan out elsewhere.

@jasonkredline @Oneepstein They are, but taking a smaller share is always an option if forced to do so. I think it comes down to what happens to the ACC in the coming years. Might free up some spots in the B12 once they move to two super conferences. We prob end up in the PAC when its all said and done 😂

@jasonkredline @BParry19 Could be right… what the hell do I know? I do think there will be at least one move sooner rather than later that will kind of change things up. Whether or not UNLV comes out better off is anyone’s guess. Gonna have all 4 major leagues in LV and still can’t get a sniff of P4

@Oneepstein @BParry19 I think the p4s are full. They don’t wanna share revenue with g6s. It’s more likely we end up with current p4s that are relegated than new p4 schools.

@BParry19 @jasonkredline 💯 and I agree with the strategy… as painful as it is to watch bball be relegated to second tier status.

@Oneepstein @jasonkredline It’s the only way. That’s why I believe UNLV is all in on football and basketball is being neglected. If we had a huge donor base it would be different, but it would still be a huge uphill battle because of missing out on millions of TV money that the others get.

@jasonkredline Unless you get an alumni as a HC to stay out of love for that program or set up like Gonzaga who doesn’t have to pay for football and can allocate all funding to bball then pretty much every mid major will be a stepping stone.

The Mountain West has always had conference representatives on site whenever and wherever one of its teams is playing in the NCAA Tournament. Utah State, which is leaving for the Pac-12, beats Villanova in a Mountain West venue (Viejas Arena) ... and NO ONE IS HERE.

@BParry19 @jasonkredline All that makes sense… just wondering if any unexpected consequences due to proximity and what effect that might have. It’s a very “connected” city, so I’d be curious to see how it plays out.

@Oneepstein @jasonkredline Can’t get worse I suppose. Competing eyes, dollars, etc. it immediately got worse when the Knights arrived, a lot had to do with their immediate success and UNLV’s fall off a cliff. Will have 3 major sports playing all at once, just don’t see how this would help attendance.

@BParry19 @jasonkredline I’d tend to agree, but I also don’t know. Maybe there’s an outside chance it helps…? Not sure how or why, but… I mean it can’t necessarily get worse, can it…?

@ESPNLasVegas Such a cliche… “we felt disrespected”… piss. Off. You got beat soundly twice. The disrespect you feel should be from how your own team responded to getting beat. Eff him.

Utah State felt disrespected in the previous meetings against UNLV, and used it for motivation in yesterday's 80-60 victory. "We're not going to take any disrespect," said Drake Allen. MJ Collins didn't like what the Rebels said in the 92-65 thrashing on Mar. 3.

@BParry19 @Rebel_Net Yup. I do agree that football had and has to be “prioritized” now, but you’d have thought we could’ve maybe got lucky with at least ONE hire since CDR and maybe had at least one or two years of SOMETHING. 🙄

@Oneepstein @Rebel_Net That’s been my argument for awhile… maybe we keep a few pieces, but how long is it sustainable? Still baffling though because we have better NIL than a lot of teams in conference, but still are circling the drain.

@Rebel_Net 💯. Anymore, it just doesn’t feel like anything short of a HUGE investment into the program wouldn’t even move the needle. Anything short of that is gonna be half measures that won’t breed anything sustainable for any length of time, and you’re right back where you started.

@Oneepstein With FB, we’ve taken necessary steps, a lot of effort … to improve. And we were consistent cellar dwellers. MBB has been too “ignored” by UNLV, imo. They rode the strong pride and goodwill of long time fans thinking it was forever, that they didn’t need to do their part.

@Rebel_Net Yeah… just hard to root for something that is so disconnected from everything really. I of course watch and root, but I just don’t think I care that much anymore. Football at least feels like it fitting into some sort of “place” outside a AQ conference… basketball not so much.

@Oneepstein It feels like passive viewership now as opposed to ingrained pride. Almost everything that made the sport special (to me) is gone. Not even sport as in college basketball, pretty much all competition. The camaraderie, the pride, the work ethic, name on the front, etc …

Every coach and spectator will tell you that Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn is straight up better than Falslev by miles and miles. But at the end of the day, MWPOTY hasn’t gone to a player on a team outside the top 2 in over a decade. It’s a best player on the best team award.
Geoff Grammer@GeoffGrammer

@ust8_ @Tecs4Life @DeadAirwithJDW I've talked to four coaches, all of them have said falslev is their pick.
