On the first leg of the 2-day visit to #Lakshadweep archipelago, surrounded by the Arabian Sea, arrived this morning at the picturesque island of #Agatti, the main gateway to this union territory. Agatti is known for its turquoise lagoons, vibrant coral reefs, and water sports like scuba diving and snorkeling. The visit assumes special significance also because PM @narendramodi has given high priority to India’s island territories and the Blue Economy aligned with them.

During the #Lakshadweep visit, at the capital island of #Kavaratti, looking forward to inspect the world’s first OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) Plant to generate clean energy and simultaneously provide drinking water after desalinating the salty sea water. Proud of the Ocean scientists in the Ministry of Earth Sciences #MoES, for this marvel creation, coming as a huge relief to the island populations.

Stated that: - Mission Mausam aims to strengthen India’s weather and climate observation, modelling, and forecasting capabilities through an integrated Earth System approach, enabling more accurate, timely, and impact-based services and robust early warning systems. - Under the mission, advanced observation technologies, next-generation radars, and high-performance computing systems have been established to improve weather surveillance and prediction capabilities, including the use of AI/ML-based models. - These efforts have led to higher-resolution forecasts (around 6 km), improved prediction of extreme weather events, and stronger last-mile dissemination, supporting disaster risk reduction and the Early Warning for All initiative. Hon’ble MoS (I/C), #MoES, @DrJitendraSingh responded in Rajya Sabha to a starred question on the NEED FOR A DEDICATED POLAR RESEARCH VESSEL (PRV) IN ANTARCTICA. Stated that: - India’s Antarctic expeditions, including year-round scientific research and logistics, are currently being carried out uninterrupted through annually chartered ice-class vessels. - The Government clarified that the shortage of specialised polar-trained personnel or scientific equipment is not a limiting factor for India’s polar research activities. - To strengthen India’s polar capabilities, the Department of Expenditure has accorded in-principle approval for the acquisition of one PRV during 2025–2030. - A Project Monitoring and Coordination Committee (PMCC) comprising experts is overseeing the project to ensure timely execution and alignment of technical, financial, and administrative aspects.
