@MarkHiggie2 Same in the new BBC show about Mary Bennett. Funny that when something actually offensive comes up, like pretending Indians were well integrated etc in England in 1810, they pretend it’s great because of inclusivity.

Is it any wonder that so many people don’t bother with the movies any more? The producers of ‘The Choral’ went to huge effort to recreate a small Yorkshire mill-town in 1916 - except in one important area. In terms of ethnic composition they make it look like modern urban Britain, which small town Yorkshire in 1916 obviously wasn’t. No character in the movie comments on what would have been very unusual at the time, let alone expresses racism, though we get plenty of prejudice against Germans and homosexuals. They might as well have allowed the appearance in the film of mobile phones. It’s become standard practice for movie producers to depict Britain’s past as one of racial diversity in historic situations when it plainly didn’t exist. Adding to the oddity, the producers, part of a world which is usually so quick to see racism in Britain’s past, create an ideal world of racial harmony. It’s curious that ethnic minorities themselves don’t object to such ahistorical depictions. Meanwhile woke reviewers even in the conservative media clearly feel it would be bad form to mention this issue. And many potential audience members feel that these days going to the movies is to subject themselves to a social engineering exercise.

@ProfJoannaHowe It’s incomprehensible. My friend had a stillbirth at 23 weeks, and she got a shock when the hospital called to get her to arrange for the remains to be taken to a funeral home. Thousands in funeral costs for a stillbirth, baby in the bin for abortion?

It is legal to discard full term babies in bins after their abortion in SA hospitals and midwives are the ones who are forced to do this.

@NovusOrdoWatch This coming from Tucho, and yet the words reported (below) to be in a book (from him, made public by him, with no subsequent public repentance) that are heretical words is going to say others are schismatic? His words will have no actual, real efficacy given he is a heretic.

@DavidSmuts @FrMatthewLC @PillarCatholic It's a strange way of putting it for sure. More like an exception exists that can allow people to overcome their ignorance, and get to heaven nonetheless, under very specific conditions.

@FrMatthewLC @PillarCatholic There's a huge problem here, with belief in the Real Presence, and people elevating their pets to a level with humanity. Don't tell me they didn't excommunicate them, tell me what they did to protect Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and to make clear the teachings of the Church.

@PillarCatholic This is horrible, but the diocese is right. For automatic excommunication for sacrilege, you need to have a sacriligious intention. Ignorance will get so many into heaven.

Honestly, I think both the pope and the SSPX are wrong on this one. The SSPX needs to slow down and push harder for private audiences with the pope. And Pope Leo needs to meet with them and help them in resolving this crisis. I think a huge opportunity is being missed here.👇🏻

@ShaneSchaetzel Honestly, I think the SSPX should be given credit for their incredible restraint in the face of years of massive provocations. Actual schismatics would totally ignore the Pope & do whatever they want, whenever they want.

@MattGaspers @DrKwasniewski @AuditeInsulae He’s not wrong. I defend them, but I find disturbing that the chaplaincy closest to me which I’ve been attending from time to time warns parishioners off any Mass that isn’t SSPX, even if it’s a one off for travel etc.

The problem with saying the SSPX attendees should just go to the FSSP is that: The FSSP is vastly smaller in scale than the SSPX Without Traditionis Custodes being revoked, Rome could pull the rug out from under them and the diocesan TLM at any point and ban the TLM again.

I understand that many towns are changing over to LED's as their yellow sodium streetlights start to die. But why do they have to be bright white? Is there a yellow LED that is as cheap as the bright white one? I'd love to pitch my town supervisor on keeping our town yellow.

@SamaHoole It's hard to find real butchers anymore. I found one near me and asked him for organ meats a few years back. He said it pretty much all gets exported, but if I put in an order I could get 5kg or so. A bit much for me.

Liver and onions was on the kitchen table of roughly every British household in the country, at least once a fortnight, from approximately 1850 to approximately 1985. A Tuesday meal. Whatever day the butcher had lamb's liver in, or pig's liver if you were further down the week, or ox liver if the household was stretching the budget. Your mother bought it that afternoon. Still warm, or nearly. Deep burgundy, slick and glossy on the butcher's paper. Half a pound. Tuppence. Change from a shilling. She sliced it quarter of an inch thick, dusted it in seasoned flour, and laid it in a pan where a pound of onions had been going soft in bacon fat for twenty minutes. Two minutes one side. Two minutes the other. The middle still faintly pink. Overcooked liver was a mortal sin in a British kitchen, spoken of by grandmothers with genuine sadness, the way a priest might discuss a lapsed parishioner. Pan juices deglazed with water and Worcestershire, poured over. Mashed potato. A pile of cabbage. A rasher of bacon laid across the top if it was a good week. The whole thing cost, in 1962, approximately 8p per serving. It delivered, in a single plate, the highest concentration of bioavailable vitamin A in any food on earth, more B12 than any supplement will ever contain, haem iron at absorption rates a plant source cannot match, copper, zinc, choline, folate, and selenium. Nobody called it a superfood. Nobody called anything a superfood. It was called Tuesday. Then, between 1985 and 2005, liver quietly disappeared. Mothers stopped buying it. The butcher stopped ordering it. The supermarket stopped stocking it. By 2010, most British adults under thirty had never knowingly eaten it. The word now carries a faint cultural embarrassment. A food your nan ate. Something to move past. Meanwhile, 20% of British women of childbearing age are anaemic. The NHS prescribes them ferrous sulphate tablets that cause nausea and take six months to address a deficiency one plate of liver a fortnight would correct in weeks. The women taking the tablets are, in many cases, the granddaughters of the women who ate the liver. The deficiency is cultural amnesia with a prescription attached. Your butcher still has lamb's liver in the counter. Ask him. He will be delighted. He might throw in the kidneys. Flour. Bacon fat. Onions. Four minutes total. Worcestershire. Mashed potato underneath. The grandmother is gone, but the dish remembers her, and so do you, whether you knew her or not. Eat it. Pass it on.
